I caught over 100 punts in camp, that's not an excuse anymore

No' date=' just no. Armanti's actions resulted in the first turnover on a PR and he muffed the second one. Just so I don't get flamed by the App homers on here realize I'm not bashing the kid but he has a LONG LONG way to go to make an impact in this league....[/quote']

Moore fumbled his return and Captain muffed a return too. The whole team isn't doing to well on ST right now.

This is Fox/Hurney problem here. It would be different if they spent a 3rd rounder on a player who actually caught punts in college but couldnt catch them in the nfl.. I could tell by reading some things on AE during the spring that he wasnt too sure about this whole pr thing.. The dude is a qb with good hands and speed, but happens to be 2 inches smaller than what a qb in the nfl should be.

Yes but Armanti was just terrible last night....FWIW I personally thought Munnerlyn was interfered with on his muffed return, from what I could see it looked like the defender bumped him....

Fox and Hurney tried like hell to fit this square peg in a round hole. When does someone wise up and see it just doesnt work. And he might have the right attitude about it, but that doesnt matter. Jake Delhomme had the right attitude, now were paying him to play another team thats on our schedule

It's preseason, and thus it doesn't matter. I really, really doubt Fox lets Armanti return in the regular season if he doesn't get this corrected. Remember Goodson? He muffed one or two and didn't see the field the rest of the season.

I don't see why so many are angry toward Armanti. The man didn't ask the front office to give up a pick to take him and then convert him to a returner and receiver. He's going to take some time to develop. I personally don't think he needs to return at all this year -- it's possible we could work him in as a receiver every now and then. But that's exactly what I expected when we drafted him.

Not a fan of AE at all. He is called a project becasue he is a tweener, playing one position in college and another coming to the NFL. I honestly don't know why the panther's wanted him so bad, they could have drafted a WR with potential instead of trying to make a (mostly) QB a WR before a possible lockout. A WR project starts with returns and so far he is failing the first step, misrebly.

I agree completely, but he's on the team now. I'll support the guy and just hope that he develops into the player the front office envisions him to be. It's going to take time.

I still say they should just let him focus on playing WR and let guys like Munnerlynn and Witherspoon battle it out for punt returns. I just don't see how they can possibly trust AE to return punts in a real game this year.

I feel just the opposite. Receiver is a much harder position to learn, he should focus exclusively on punt returner for now, if thats what they want him to do. Last nights mistakes, while bad are something that is fixable. Catching a punt is a matter of judgement and confidence. Those are things that might get better with experience. Once he gets punt returner down, then he can begin to learn how to be a receiver.

Seems Armanti is manning up and taking responsibility where his fan boys won't.

Now THAT is the right attitude to have AE. Get it fixed and get back out there. You have two more games to prove you can get it right.

Jake manned up after each of his grey hair causing games too. All that ever did for us was to watch another pooty performance a week later. It's like listening to a politician. They talk a good game, and then deliver the same ol same ol. After a while, you just stop listening.

I'm not giving up on Armanti, though. I have faith that he can still be a great player, if he had a coach worth a poo. It would be interesting to see him come out on occasion to be QB, throw a few times, run a few times. If he was smart and good, he could really throw off a defense. We'll never see it with Fox as our coach, though. Our QBs are big, tall, and stand there in the pocket. Not saying that's a bad thing, look at Brady and Manning. Just saying it would be nice if Fox tried something that wasn't from the 50s.

It's the same thing with Brown, who forced us at knife-point to trade a 1st to get him and then willfully didn't have the 52 sack rookie season that was needed to justify the pick we gave up. He actually had a very solid rookie outing, but he's still worthless trash that should be moved to LB. But oh, hey, 2 sacks in preseason, love that fuger now, till next week anyways.

Edwards, one cold, rainy Charlotte night, bludgeoned Hurney with one of his illegitimate children until he sobbingly agreed to spend a 2nd and move up. That fact that he's coming from a small school, switching positions, is a rookie, also showing decent progression at WR .. none of that matters and he's going to need.. oh.. 8000 yards receiving and at least 3 kicks returned for points on the year to make up for that pick and because everyone had another favorite receiver going to us in their mock.

Well, I sincerely hope I'm wrong, and that he will get better, but I'm sure as hell not filled with confidence right now. Plus, we have guys on the roster that have actually done this before and can reasonably be trusted to at least secure the ball.
