Preseason is worthless?? Your fn crazy and or have no real love or understanding of how football works...Saying that preseason is worthless comes more from a marketing point of view when you realize that money isn't being generated because the lack of attention people with ADD have! Its like saying boxing isn't worth watching unless it's pay-per-view

Well, it's not. That's why if a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight ever happens it'll be on PPV.

Duh.

And I <3 the "You have no understanding of football argument," like that's some way that you're supposed to prove that I'm wrong.

I just think the lack of correlation between pre-season results and regular season results speaks for itself. I also don't understand the "OMG SKY IS FALLING" attitude that comes with pre-season games.

There's no game-planning. There's nothing about a pre-season game week that mirrors a regular season game week except for the fact that players go to practice, and wear the nice shiny uniforms on gameday.

It's especially ridiculous when you consider that our starters haven't even played 4 full quarters of football and we're without 3 pro-bowl caliber players on offense. I mean, ok, pre-season is a time where coaches get to evaluate new players in game-type situations... but the difference between a pre-season and regular season game is so marked that I don't understand why people are so up-in-arms about a pre-season performance.

The sooner people can see pre-season for pre-season, the better off we all will be.

You bring nothing to the table by calling for heads to roll during week 2... of the pre-season.

Edit: Just to give you an idea of how worthless pre-season is: On the way out of the stadium, I was walking behind two people. One was wearing a Hines Ward Jersey. The other was wearing a custom Steeler's jersey with "Obama" as the back nameplate and "08" as the number. Maybe they thought we were playing the Steelers this week. Jets... Steelers... I can see where they would be confused.

I was VERY against the Clausen pick in the draft. Since then he has impressed me quite a bit. So much in fact that I think in an emergency he could be a serviceable back up as a rookie. Believe it or not that is saying a lot. People who didn't go to training camp and have seen very little of Clausen playing in the NFL environment, i.e. three quarters of preseason against back up defenses and think he should start,, are foolish nutswingers. I think Jimmy has all the tools to be a great quarterback and lead us to a dynasty given proper time to develop. But you don't just throw a rookie to the sharks if you have a guy like Moore who is a proven winner in the NFL. Being thrown in too soon has ruined quite a few young quarterbacks that had tons of potential. They too often develop bad habits and lose confidence.

That's a great point because it proves mine. More pressure and he still was able to put a scoring drive together!!

I wouldn't say that Clausen exactly put together a big scoring drive.

The Panthers only points came in the third quarter came when defensive tackle Nick Hayden recovered a McKnight fumble in Jets territory and John Kasay converted a 42-yard field goal.

Jimmy Clausens QB rating for the two preseason games is 35.0,not exactly NFL Hall Of Fame numbers.

However i do feel Clausen has a very good future ahead of him as an NFL QB,just don't see the need for this early ridiculous, start Clausen verbage.

umm it is but I was thinking about a different drive where we didnt score my bad!

Thank you for admitting your mistake. Most people in your position would've came up with an excuse, changed the subject and continued arguing that single point.

Really, it's not that hard to make about 5-6 posts a day. It can be done in 10 minutes, easily, especially if you don't read entire threads (or the big threads). I read every single post and can still make about 5-6 posts in 10 minutes.

    • Carter, Graham, and Hunter for me. Other than that I'm listening to offers. Hell, I'm listening to offers anyway. I'm not doing the Gettleman thing of submitting the pick immediately. If the phones are ringing there's no cost to listening. Maybe someone has an offer so good that I can't refuse.
    • These numbers do not measure a player's prime. Do these numbers include OL pulled up from the practice squad for a game or two then cut?  Do they include players who might have been injured or cut for reasons other than they were past their primes?  The average career for an NFL lineman is 3.63 years, and that is because there is a lot of turnover--regardless of a player's prime. In fact, if only 55% of Offensive linemen drafted in the first round succeed, then the failure rates of most offensive linemen drafted and undrafted would be much lower, cause them to skew the average age of the OL.  This suggests that most players' retirement from the NFL is not based on their prime, but other factors.  They are cut, released, injured--and that is based on their level of play compared to others, not their levels of play within their personal skill range--something that peaks during your prime. In this case, I was talking about Moton, an elite offensive tackle, one that avoided the factors that shorten careers unrelated to their primes. I identify Moton as the team's best offensive lineman on an impressive OL--that distinguishes the type of player being referenced, so I did not provide a lot of qualifiers--as you didn't with your stats.   In this article below, one that evaluates established Offensive tackles, it states the following, which supports my comment:  "Most elite offensive tackles start to decline at roughly the age of 32 if they haven’t already."  So to say that Moton was at the end of his prime was not a reach or careless speculation.  If a player has the skill to be competitive and they can avoid injuries, their career expectancy is much higher than an average of all offensive lineman on a fluid roster. https://www.milehighreport.com/2017/2/27/14724674/age-wall-for-offensive-tackles-nfl
    • If there’s not much difference in moving back a couple spots, finding a good offer might be an issue.
