The Good The Bad and The Ugly: Jets Edition

second string center that kept snapping the ball on the ground needs to be cut. if you can't snap clean to qb in shotgun at this level there is no helping you. that lost second from clausen digging for every snap cost the panthers big - helped allow the jets to blitz at will without getting burned. the tape is going to be ugly.

I highly doubt he will be playing center for the Panthers, that is if he is on the team to begin with....

People worry about numbers too much. The guy was only thrown to four times on the night and one resulted in a PI penalty. So as I have already said this team needs a guy who can be counted on to make the catch everytime on a tough third and six. Thats exactly what Jarrett can do.

I guess if a 250-300 yard year is what we need from our #2 receiver, I agree with you.

God I miss Moose already.

During half-time they brought out a bunch of former players and presented the Sam Mills Memorial Scholarship. One of the players that came out, and actually presented the scholarship was Moose. I said "Man, I'd love to have that guy back right about now," and immediately about 3 people around me turned to me and said "you got that right."

Wide receivers have been a weak spot this pre-season. But, I have a feeling this offense is completely different when Otah is on the field, when Smitty is on the field, and when Stewart is sharing time with Williams. I'm not too worried about it at this point, because I think those are 3 keys to the offense that completely change the look of our O. But it remains that receivers need to be able to catch balls.

On a side note, Stewart was attached at the hip to Williams tonight. They were always together, and a lot of the time talking to Jim Skipper. Glad to see he's engaged in the game even if he's not playing. I can't say that much for many of the other guys, including Otah who spent the majority of the game sitting on the bench alone and away from Magazu and the rest of the O-line.

Clausen and Cantwell were always together and never far from Fox, but Pike would be at the complete other end of the sideline. Kind of looked to me, as an outside observer, that he was having confidence issues.

Another little note: After Jenks made that big tackle on the first play of the game he was barking at the Panthers sideline. As the teams went in for halftime, he hugged Fox and stayed out there long after everyone else had gone in chatting with Beason and Gamble. He also looks like he's lost a ton of weight.

Chris Gamble made it a point to talk to and cheer up Armanti Edwards, but 10 was pretty much by himself otherwise. Sorta felt bad for him.

Overall, a solid game by both defenses (Panthers held the Jets to 112 total yards) but excruiatingly sloppy play on special teams (minus Baker) and an uninspiring offensive performance--to say the least.

Crowd was bigger than I expected, though.

I would be perfectly fine with 300-500 yards out of a receiver if those yards kept the chains moving and were critical to scoring points, or included TD's. I couldn't care less who gets the numbers as long as the team gets the win. Kenneth Moore is not a "reliable" receiver, nor is LaFell or Edwards.....

Why not just dump it off to a TE then? Same type of play, same type of production, better blocking if needed.

Doubt he sniffs anywhere near 500. He'd need to be able to run faster than Kalil.

If you don't think Jarrett could average 35-40 yards a game with Smitty commanding double and sometimes triple coverage then I'm not sure you actually want the kid to succeed....Personally I think with Smith on the field and both members of Double trouble to keep the defenses honest D.J. could be an 800-900 yard receiver....

Because Jarrett has the best hands on the team. That's why I said a "reliable" receiver....
