Overreacting? Really.

top dawg

Recommended Posts

I am so tired of hearing about how some of us are overreacting, or having a knee-jerk reaction, etc. Even if it's true, after imploding after a bye in the playoffs, it is quite expected, natural and rational to cry "Bloody Murder!"

It is not foreign to think that it's time to make some changes after your high paid QB completes more meaningful passes to the opposition than to the most electrifying receiver in the NFL. A fan is not insane to call for the head of the defensive coordinator and/or the head coach---who is also a defensive specialist---when they allow the opposition's primary target to make swiss cheese out of your defensive secondary by continuing to play a soft-cover-zone defense, and get bludgeoned repeatedly.

Even if the supposed overreaction is deemed real by some, then id it not just as valid to think that the under-reaction by others also borders on insanity?

Is it not crazy to think that those who come up with the same old tired arguments year after year like; "Who is a better option at QB?"; "We should stay the course!"; or, "How soon you forget all that he has done for us over the years..." are suffering from a state of annual under-reaction?

The first thing that you must do if you have a problem is to admit that you have a problem, otherwise you'll keep falling into the same trap. If you want the same results, then keep doing what you're doing. Change nothing! If you want a change, then the first thing that you must change is your mind!

Ultimately, all that we can really do as fans is to accept the decisions of the powers that be. We can only hope that our sentiment will have an effect one way or another on the powers that be. But I don't believe that after years of the same leadership directing the team that one can say with any intellectual honesty or validity that fans are overreacting.

The Panthers have been to the dance one time in team history. And, whether some of you admit or not, it's not like we have been knocking on the door year after year with what has been in place. Let's sit back and relax, have a legitimate discussion, and wait and see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised either way. It's just my belief that "a change is go'n come, oh yes it will." The question is whether it will be this off season, or whether the inevitable will be dragged out for a few more.

I know one thing. Regardless of what happens with the coaching staff, Jake, Peppers, Gross, etc., I wouldn't raise the bar to championship levels for next season. But, there are always pleasant surprises. Whether I like to admit it, this season was a pleasant surprise. But, when I look deep down into the recesses of my mind, I am also not surprised that the Panthers couldn't get it done, even when it appeared that things were in our favor. Something is missing, and has been missing. I can only assume that it has to be somewhere at the top, and that that something will have to be fixed until we can knock at the door of a championship with any solid consistency.

Ok, here's what I get from your post.

Overreacting--hasn't really happened that much around here.

Reasonable reaction--fire Trgo, fire Davidson, cut Jake, let Peppers walk, sign a couple of high priced free agents, and fire Fox too, while you're at it. Add a lot of bold words and exclamation points to let people know you're really serious.

Underreacting--Try to retain the core of your 12-4 team by resigning Gross and Peppers. Give your DC some more talent to work wtih by finding depth along the defensive line and secondary to help shore up the defense. It worked for the holes in the OL this year, it might work on the DL next. Look at the possibility of saving cap money by cutting Lucas, and promote Marshall.

How's that, does it capture the essence of what you're saying?

I fail to see how my observation that you started a thread about points that have been hashed, rehashed, buried, dug up, and rehashed again proves anything about your winding diatribe.

If you guys want to pollute this board with vain ramblings, don't expect us to be impressed when they say nothing new and say it poorly.

If you need to vent, get a woman or a shrink.

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
