According to sources at THR's Heat Vision blog, Mary Jane – Peter Parker's girlfriend in the Sam Raimi trilogy – will not be appearing in the new film. Instead, director Marc Webb has either crafted a new female lead, or has decided to take a more canonical approach by casting for the role of Gwen Stacy (Peter Parker's first love in the comics).
