Question from a falcons fan, why do you guys hate our fanbase?

The success of the Braves showed that even when a team is doing well, the "fans" of Atlanta won't respond to them. Atlanta likes to think of itself as a cosmopolitan town, therefore major sporting events are seen simply as a place to be seen. The fanbase has no culture, no tradition, and is fickle, and as a result is horribly ignorant, uneducated, and misinformed.

Vick did a lot to hurt this. His signing brought a lot of people to the games who'd never before been fans of the Falcons but nontheless wanted to talk about the team as if they knew what they were talking about. With the exception of a brief glimmer in 2002, Vick was never a top 15 QB. This didn't stop the fans from drunkenly proclaiming the next coming, and spouting off angrily when people disagreed. The dog fighting scandal divided the fanbase straight down racial lines and made both sides seem dumber than they were before. The result was that casual black fans who knew nothing about the team abandoned them, only to be replaced this year by casual hick fans who know nothing about the team.

In my 4 years of living in this city, I've never met a single person I thought understood NFL football or could honestly talk about the strengths and weaknesses of their team. They are either the worst or the best. Ryan isn't doing okay for a rookie, he's having an MVP year. Turner isn't just doing okay, he's the best RB in the league. Whereas many fans are guilty of elevating their own players simply because they like them, Atlanta fans do this because they have absolutely no sense of historical context. Mention Rick Mirer won Rookie of the Year, they'll have no idea who you're talking about. Mention Terrell Davis blew out his knee after a similar workload to Turner, they'll ask who he was, not even realizing that their team who they didn't follow in 98 lost to Davis in the super bowl.

In closing, ignorant, fickle, uneducated, irritating, and generally from one of the worst parts of the country; metro atlanta outside of the perimeter.

I've been a Panther fan since their inception and the first regular game I ever attended was the Panther/Falcon game in Clemson (we won that one:)) and that hooked me on Panther football....never EVER had a problem with Atlanta until the dog killer became the qb; it's like everything changed as far as attending home games...a 'thug' atmosphere in their fans that came to these games is what left a sour taste in my mouth but this past season was more like the rivalry game that I like to experience with the rest of our division :)

And, don't get too high on your team, KOtS. Your Falcons have really only had one REAL chance to get over the hump, just like the Panthers. It's just that the Falcons have been around a whole helluva lot more time. The falcons were a franchise before many of us were born, and nothing really distinguishes them from the Saints than one SB appearance, and decidedly limited post season appearances. So, don't get all "mightier than thou" about your team. The Panthers are historically a better organization, even if you look at the last 13 years.

It would actually suck to be a Falcons fan, and some of you guys want us to believe that you really believe that your Falcons are flying high. Y'all are just like the rest of us NFC South fans (except for Bucs fans who have at least one SB victory).

well i cant really think of anything in N.C worth mentioning so that state obviously sucks. South carolina though rocks, charleston is a great vacation spot.

You've never seen our big phallic skyscraper with the blue head.

As for Falcon fans, I could care less either way. But the team, I hate em. I think that originally started with Vick, and all the nut-hugging surrounding him. Certainly, the media has a lot of the blame for that. Looks like the same thing is happening with Matt Ryan. It's never just "The Atlanta Falcons". It's always, "Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons", or "Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons". Sounds like a band name, or something. Just kinda sick of hearing it.

well thanks for all the responses guys, and sorry if i offended you, but i never said that i didnt hate the panthers so a little "jabbing" was in all good fun, the falcons real rivalry is the saints, just because we've been division rivals with them for over 30 years.

I would much rather see carolina win a superbowl, if the saints ever did before the falcons i'd quit watching football all together.

that being said, the taem i fear most is the panthers in the NFC south, so who knows in 20 years maybe i will have just as strong hatred for your team.

I have no problem with Falcon fans myself. They bought me a ton of drinks the day and night before the game in Charlotte, so I have no complaints.

Persoanlly, the worst fans I've observed belong to the Eagles, and the Giants, when they came to town. But even then, I wouldn't paint all of their fans as such, just that some of the ones I saw pulling for those teams went too far in some of their antics, both at the stadium and outside of it.

The 49ers fans had some Yahoos among them too back when they were good and we shared the same division. But, I'm sure the teams I've just mentioned can point out some of our fans as being weenies too. Ultimately, who cares. But I do respect fans, for any team, who travel to support their team. I really do.
