So basically if Jake Delhomme walked up to you at training camp and stabbed you in the chest would you thank him for not shooting you?

Just because you look at the bright side doesn't mean you are a better fan. Just means you should buy some candycorn and STFU....

heh..I'm using that all day tommorow

Ding Ding Ding...panthers fans are the worlds best at settling for mediocracy...of course I am pissed off, of course I don't think Jake or Fox is the awnser to us becoming superbowl champs...Jake Delhomme is an average QB and that is not going to win us a Ring. We have too much explosive offensive talent to just have an ok QB...and lets think about this logically when is the last time you saw Jake throw a good thorw? Not a 5 yard pass to smith who then turns it into a 60 yard play either. When is the last time you saw Jake look off a defender or see that Smith is double covered and then check it down to Muss or King? And John Fox lets see here yea he is a good coach...we barely beat bad teams, we are publicly known for playing to our competition level...3rd down and more than 5 to go we will always throw a 3 yard pass and no first down...when we get up by 7 pts we go into a prevent defense and stop rushing the QB...when we get down by 7 pts we abandon the run and double the passes...come on we need a change in Carolina and I for one cannot wait to see the difference an offensive minded coach will make with such and explosive offensie like we have.

We don't settle for mediocracy, nor have we been mediocre under Fox. You think a 12-4 record is mediocre? Go tell that to a Lion's fan. Would you like to whine about your playoff appearances to a Texan? We're not one of the top five teams in the league, but we're close to that.

Champions take a long time to build, and you either need to get the pieces right all along the way or strike gold in the draft. We made some mistakes early on under Fox in the draft, but how can any of you say we're headed in the wrong direction and expect to be taken seriously?

Jake fucked up BAD on Saturday, but he's won enough games for us this year to show he still has a lot left. Our offense looks very set to be very good for the next few years. Davidson obviously needs to learn from this past game, but once he starts calling to Jake's strengths and has the patience to rely on the running game even in pressure situations, we'll be pretty damn scary.

Defense is terrible right now, but defense is also what Fox and Hurney are very good at assembling. Now that they've got the offense set, watch what happens when they focus on that side of the ball again.

Lost in all of this is that we finally seem to have learned how to deal with injuries. The offensive line shifted all over the place like it did in 06, but we didn't suffer for it. We did pretty well at the end of the year despite losing our defensive tackles. That's a thin position and we dealt with it--a far cry from previous seasons.

12-4 is a great year. I would love to go 9-7 or better next year, and looking at the roster there's no reason to think we won't. Saturday's loss stings, but there's plenty of positives in this picture, and nothing about it looks mediocre to me.

I haven't abandoned the Panthers, but that loss was disgusting to watch. I absolutely hate to lose, but it was the way that we lost this game that was especially disgusting. We looked like we didn't even belong in the damn playoffs. Oklahoma probably could have beaten us Saturday. And to be honest, I'm now sick and tired of Jake. I have been defending him for years, but no more. Sure, he has fire and leadership, but he also decides to throw 4-5 ints in a SINGLE game several times a year. And don't give me "he brought us back in the 4th Q x nubmer of times" arguement. 95% of those were Smitty bailing him out with a ridiculous catch that was 50% skill and 50% luck.

Smitty didn't do too much bailing out of Weinke, Testaverde, Moore, or Carr. It takes two, you know.

Jakes ok right now. Had we stuck with the run do you think he would have still found a way to turn it over so many times? It's a team game, and he's good enough at what he does. No one's saying he's great, ok? But he's better than any other option right now. So suck it up and move on, you'll feel better.

Cyberjag is wise.

The rest of you guys that want to blow up a 12-4 team because of one shitty game need to back away from the ledge and take a deep breath.

Address the defense by hiring a new DC, and we will be fine.

See you in Spartanurg.

Problem is, I really doubt that will happen because we had a 12-4 season. Trgovac gets a pass, and we get a second rate defense again, maybe minus Julius Peppers.

So as far as I'm concerned, there are some major issues that will not be addressed in the offseason. Some of them are by choice (see: Trgovac), but others are because we don't have the draft picks and/or cap space to sign the players we need to improve in necessary areas.

Quoted for 110% Truth.

I, for one, have realized that a magical QB isn't going to fall out of the sky and lead the Panthers. There just simply aren't that many of them for every team to have one.

Of course, that may have to do with the fact that I'm not 12 years old anymore. Whats the rest of you guys' excuses?;)

    • The reality though is that there just isn't a traditional #1 pick type of player in this draft to begin with. He might have been below Marvin last year, but I don't think he'd have been below Nabers. And if you think he disappears in some college games, then you're only looking at the box scores, I guarantee you not a single NFL GM will say he disappears in games when watching the tape. Arizona's offense is a MESS this year, the new coaching staff is beyond bad and the fanbase is screaming for them all to be fired, our OL is awful, our QB is playing like utter garbage, and we don't have another weapon to attract any defensive attention.  Teams are double and triple teaming him on almost every snap, and when combined with the OL and QB issues, it's just impossible to get him the ball sometimes.  And even when our QB forces the pass to him, half the time it's not even catchable given how poor he's been playing. And even despite all that, he's still 3rd in the nation in yards. I've also seen more WR rankings having Burden over Hunter than I have seen Hunter over T-Mac.  If we had a true outside #1 WR, then taking someone like Hunter (or Burden) instead of T-Mac would make more sense as if Hunter were to play WR in the NFL, he'd more likely be used a slot guy like Godwin or Kupp.   There's a reason most mocks/analysts who don't list Hunter as a CB/WR (or just Athlete) list him as a CB.  Because it's his better position and the side of the ball he's more likely to play in the NFL, partially due to his wire thin frame, I don't see him holding up long term as a WR.
    • This was a good breakdown from Daniels.  Last year has had a lasting impact on Young. He still isn't getting the time needed from the OL - the OL we have is made to establish the run and for the run to be in play.  We get behind and have to throw all game we are doomed with this O-line. His receivers have to catch the ball when he makes a good throw to them, he can't have them dropping his good passes. Why are we running 4 slants all toward the same direction?  Why a triple option on 4th and 1? That's on the coaches. Bryce gets hurried and starts slinging the ball where it shouldn't be thrown, more study and recognition from him are needed.  Bryce doesn't step up in the pocket and throws too soon and unbalanced.  He over and under throws the ball because of it.  That's on him.  If the pocket isn't there and he can't get his base set he needs to check down or "live to fight another day." He has been thrown to the wolves and has lost his confidence.  This team doesn't have much, if any, talent and it's a cluster.  I think he can still be an NFL QB.  Maybe not a QB1 in the short term, but if he has a chance with better coaching and personnel he may be better than we are giving him credit for. I think we ruined him last year and have not fixed anything to help him this year.  If we can't run or get way behind all NFL defenses are coming after him.  Dalton has more respect and defenses didn't always sell out to get to him because he'd hit a quick slant, screen, or check down because he has the experience to know what's coming and what to do. Just my 2 cents.
    • All depends on who the backup is. Josh Allen probably would have been benched too if there were better backups than Matt Barkley and Nate peterman.
