Panthers Top 15 Paid Players at Position

In a vacuum each of the guard contacts is fine and don't get me wrong I love investing in OL and DL, but I'm not really a fan of paying 2 guards big $. Pay your tackle(s), go younger/cheaper on the interior. But otherwise generally agree

With a short QB I tend to feel guards are more valuable than tackles.

Show me any available metric or measure where he has been top 10?

Some people deal in emotions over logic.

I'd say he's top 15. To get into the top ten though he's going to have to stay healthy and play a full season. That's what makes his contract a massive risk. I like him. I hope it pays off for us. On the flip side though I know my Panthers. We'll see.

Not top 10?? Honestly how do some of ya'll even talk sports man smh

What season was he a top 10 corner.....and it can be backed with a statistical argument OR can be backed by a consensus opinion that can be shared?

dude has barely suited up for over 50% of his games in Carolina.  That's like claiming CMC was a top 10 RB this year.

and if you look at 2024 for Jayce Horn (where he stayed on the field ALMOST a full season)....his breakdown of all the different ways you can evaluate a corner has been shared.  Nothing top 10 about that performance.  Horn also doesn't travel w/ opposing 1s.

By this time next year horn contract won't even be top 5

Overall or amongst corners?

As of right now he's making more than Surtain and Ramsey and he's only played 15 games once in his career. We got bent over. No use pretending otherwise.

I hate when people compare player based on avg salary.  There are so many other variables that make a difference.

Length of contract
Guaranteed money
Guaranteed money as a % of the overall contract
Salary cap
Age
Contract structure
Contract timing
Market value

I'm also a big believer in market scarcity and supply and demand.  Teams can't decide to get a elite player whenever they want because they not available very often.

You do know he was selected to the Probowl this season right? So all the voters had a concensus opinion that's he's top 10 corner unless they carried 10 corners on the roster I don’t know about lol

Let's really look at Horn.

His contract is in the middle of guaranteed money for top corners.
He's 24 so his prime years are ahead of him.
11-12% of the projected cap is reasonable for a top CB

Like all market setting contracts fans clutch their pearls but the rate at which the salary cap goes up makes it much more palatable.

His stats compared to guaranteed money isn't very good and could be seen as overpaid regarding that data point but these are his stats on a bad defense.  Everyone knows CB stats are heavily related to pass rush so I'm not worried over this one.

Injury history doesn't bother me too much as they were more fluke injuries and were not repeated injuries to the same body part or real indicators of future injuries.

His contract is fair and par for the course in the NFL for top CB's.  Any other team in our position would have done this same deal.  You don't let elite talent walk out the door, especially considering the lack of options.

Ooohhhh that's how you evaluate players going by "the metrics" from a bunch of computer nerds like PFF telling you how good a player is? Lol there isn't 10 CB's in the NFL you can name that are better than Horn I don't care WHAT metric you go by!!
