Panthers Top 15 Paid Players at Position

Here is are the current players on our team that have a top 15 AAV(per OTC) in their position group. Specialists were not included, as they rarely occupy much actual cap space.

Damien Lewis: 8th LG

Chuba Hubbard: 11th RB

Robert Hunt: 3rd RG

Taylor Moton: 10th RT

Derrick Brown: 6th IDL

Jaycee Horn: 1st CB

Trevon Moehrig: 5th S

Yeah, the Horn deal is bananas. He is genuinely not a top 10 player at his position, even when healthy. They are paying him for future performance and, TBH, I don't see it going well.

Let's hope we are all wrong and he uses it as motivation to be the best.

Moehrig is an interesting one. He is really going to have to play well to justify that, IMO.

I would think this is skewed a bit by having your starting QB, LT, and two WRs on rookie contracts. We probably end up with at least one defensive end in this year's draft class. And Brian Burns plays a premium position, but I'm sure glad we're not paying him the 4th highest salary at his position.

THIS RIGHT HERE absolutely insane for a guy who hasn't completed a season and had only played in 54% of the games in his CAREER

Burns 9 sacks a year were 100% not worth the paycheck he got (not to mention he's not a consistent pass rush but a guy who has an outburst game or two) 

Trading him was the right move they just should have traded him instead of Moore or taken the 2 1sts from the rams.

I thought that last year when we invested so heavily in guards. I was wrong because they sure made a difference.

Hubbard and Brown seem to be worth the money or possibly even bargains.

And Horn, that was a lot of money there, but it probably is just resetting the marketplace and he'll be down the list in the next few weeks. Still, I'm wondering about the balance between the impact he made last season and his availability through his career. It's a roll of the dice and I'm not sure how much is guaranteed.

Depends on what kind of draft we have imo. I think our offense gets better this year (if for no other reason the line now has a full season of continuity).

 

With the additions on defense health pending of course we should be much much better against the run, Brown-Brown-Robison on early downs is gonna be STOUT.  Rosewood and Moerig should help cut down on long runs.

 

I could see anywhere from 8 to 10 wins if we stay healthy.

      Hunter Renfrow: A health challenge led to time away from football

      Everyone wants to know what happened to Hunter Renfrow. He went from the Pro Bowl in 2021 to an afterthought in 2022 and 2023 to out of the league in 2024.  Renfrow ow is attempting a comeback with the Panthers. “It’s just trying to get back, trying to get healthy, trying to do something I love,” Renfrow told Darin Gantt of the team website when asked about a year out of the game. “I enjoyed other parts of life. We had our second daughter, so enjoying that and just wanting to make sure if I’m going to come back and give my time and attention to something that I was going to be all in on it.” Renfrow, 29, revealed that he has dealt with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, which left him with weight loss, fatigue and high fever. It’s a reason he did not play last season. Instead, Renfrow spent a year consulting with doctors and getting the condition under control. “It kicked my butt pretty good,” Renfrow said. “Last year, I fluctuated in weight. I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven straight days of 103-degree fevers. It’s tough to play when you’re not feeling great.” He now weighs 187 with a goal of a playing weight of 185. “It’s a weird feeling. It makes you grateful for the times that you do feel good,” Renfrow said. “It makes you grateful for the opportunities that you’ve had, and when you feel like you’ve been blessed with some skill to go out there and perform, it makes you not want to waste the opportunity that you have.       I am feeling optimistic for sure. But at this point in time in Panthers fandom talk is cheap and seeing is believing.
