I agree with those that said the younger one is trying to establish dominance... Part of the circle of life I suppose. As long as there is no blood shed I say leave it alone.

Punish her every time she growls.

Smack on the nose should do it. When she stops growling when you reach for the other dog, reward her for it.

Should I let them work it out? I got in between them last night and the younger one bit me for the first time (not intentionally, she was going for the other one).

The younger one thinks she is the alpha. She thinks she owns you. You need to just show that your the alpha and that u won't take any of her shiit. Just be confident and correct her before she even starts growling.

Remember, the two dogs think of the three of you as a pack. You have to remind them that you are the pack leader, and your rules are law. Once you establish this, a loud "HEY" when they start fighting will be all you need to say to get them to stop and obey you.

I like to let them play fight because it's the only time they run and both are getting overweight. They take turns chasing each other.

I don't think the younger one is thinking she's the alpha over me. I think Husker hit the nail when he said they are stratifying. I know I always feed the older one first (because she gets so hyper), maybe I should change that up now and then. They've been much better the last day or so.

I think she's guarding you because she thinks you belong to her.
