Thursday update: Home sweet home

The Panthers wrapped up their first back-at-home practice Thursday, with a few more bodies on the field than they closed training camp with.

CBs Chris Gamble and Richard Marshall were back from their excused absences that kept them from enjoying the last day in Spartanburg, while DTs Ed Johnson and Louis Leonard also returned.

Only eight players were held out: DE Tyler Brayton, LBs Quinton Culberson and Jamar Williams, SSs Sherrod Martin and Aaron Francisco and WR Trent Guy, along with the physically unable to perform duo of Thomas Davis and Jeff Otah.

Guy has apparently aggravated an earlier hamstring strain, which is a shame for the undrafted rookie, who has turned heads when he's been able to be on the field.

WRs Steve Smith and Charly Martin were limited, along with RB Jonathan Stewart.

Since they're back in regular season mode, there's a ceiling on what we can tell you about practice (the veil of secrecy has been dropped), which is why this report is thinner than past versions.

Panthers coach John Fox did say that as usual, starters will play about a half Saturday against the Jets. That's his norm, and they'll go into the third quarter the following week against Tennessee.

What is the concensus on when Otah will come off of the PUP list. Any ideas yet?

from what ive read, he will be pap- get it? by the beginning of regular season. that was like a couple weeks ago tho. he had it looked at here, and they are hoping he will be ready for game 1 but are not sure

Yeah, well with a questionable knee on a guy that big, he need not be performing until it's absolutely necessary.

And I got it. LOL
