cyclists who ride on non-residential roads.

Oh my god at the level of butthurt in this thread.

Some people get their feelings hurt way too easily.

This is obviously a venting thread. If you can't take it, just leave. It's obvious no one here really wants to see anyone hurt and you know that. You all just want to be drama queens just so you can defend your hobby. No one is attacking your hobby, just how some cyclists are dicks.

Don't ever come to Davis, CA. A little under 100,000 residents, a little over 40,000 bikes. So 2/5 people commute around the city by bike. In total length, we have more paved bike trails here than roads. It's actually pretty cool, because the bike trails cut in between everything, but it can also make driving your car a pain in the ass if there are lots of bikes out.

I hope none of you mongoloids ever reproduce and if you have children I hope their mother has custody and a restraining order.

A friend of mine was killed while riding his bike by a fugtard who like you thought he had no right to be on the road. Stupid twat didn't even have the decency to stop and see if he was ok.

Well, I wasn't going to get into this, but since you're going to use your personal story to make out like cyclists never put motorists' lives in danger or anything, the biggest reason I hope cyclists die is because one of my best friends was killed when we were in high school together in a car accident.

He was passing a cyclist on the same road I was talking about. This particular turn he was on was so sharp that you can't see another car coming until it's too late. He wasn't even halfway in to the other lane, but it was enough to clip an oncoming car, sending him spinning out of control and sideways into a telephone pole, driver's side first. He was killed instantly.

And I know it gets said 500 times, "Don't pass someone on a two-lane road with a solid yellow line then!!!1" but it shouldn't really be an issue. cyclists should get the fug off of the road until the car passes them, and then they can continue on their merry way. Best of all, no one fuging dies because of inconsiderate dicks on, admittedly, both sides of the issue.

I'm not happy that your friend died just because he's a cyclist, but everytime I pass some douche who wont even bother pulling over off of the fuging road and stopping, like literally everyone I knew did when we were kids, I wish with all my heart and soul that my friend had bulldozed that sonofabitch right over. I'd much rather have a dead poohead cyclist than a dead friend, and if anyone who has been in my situation says differently, they're a fuging liar. You'd rather have a dead motorist than a dead friend I'm sure. That's cool, I understand that to a point.

Am I a horribly bitter person who can't forgive and move on from a tragic event? When it comes to the person responsible for the death of a friend, yeah, I am.

I'm probably an awful person regardless, but I wanted you to understand that my hatred has a substantial base. It's not about the inconvenience, it's just that so many of them don't give any more of a poo about drivers than drivers do about cyclists. And yeah, I understand that drivers have more protection, and yeah, they're take on less of a risk, but it can still be dangerous for both sides.

The cocksucker never even tried to call and apologize to the guy's family.

Neither one of us are really able to look at this subject objectively, because we've both had terribly scarring experiences with cyclists on the road from opposite ends of the spectrum.

If you pull over far enough to where a car can pass you without having to go halfway into someone else's lane, you're cool. If you just fuging sit there like a dumb oaf, yeah, I hope you get hit.

Now ban me or whatever, I don't care. I'm fuging pissed all over again now.

Sorry, but ride on the ******* sidewalk or learn to mountain bike. I don't buy this Share The Road horsepoo. Roads were built for cars. Go to cycling class at the Y if you want to get some exercise and aren't coordinated enough to ride a trail. We're using the roads because we have to, not because we can't exercise like real men with weights and basketballs.

I encourage all people to throw bottles and rocks at bikers at any chance they get. I like to pull up next to them as closely as possible and yell and blare the horn until they fall over. I also wish testicular cancer on anyone who wears spandex.

I mountain bike and teach cycle class at the Y to avoid the roads and the general population of this thread. I would love to get out on the open road and ride on the weekend, but would rather take my chance with a tree over having objects thrown at me by people eating McDonald's on their way to or from work. Personally I was stuck behind bubba the farmer and his tractor on a back road a few days ago going 15 MPH on a stretch of road that is too curvy to pass safely. I could have passed a biker easily enough, but that tank was just too big! The jerk did not have the manners to pull off to the side to allow traffic to go past.( about 5 minutes in) So, although really considering purchasing a road bike the past few months after reading this I think I'll pass!

PS in Ireland and England( I'm sure other more advanced places as well) They have travel lanes just for bikes build wide enough and with barriers so crazed moterist who do not leave with enough time to get to where they are going don't kill those trying to stay healthy, help the environment, or just can't afford the cost of a vehicle or gas...

The difficulties of life are intended to make us better, not bitter. Your friend made a decision as did Inimicus's friend. Take these tragic accidents( it was not intentional on either side) and learn from it. Use patience if you are a driver, and consideration if you are a biker. Ultimately there needs to be changes made bike lanes opened etc, but practice kindness until then. Best advice is don't do or say anything you would not want your parents or children to hear or witness.
