CJ Wilson hopes hard work pays off

A year ago, C.J. Wilson seemed ready to step up and become a key member of the Carolina Panthers secondary, a potential “starting” nickel back following the departure of Ken Lucas.

And then, just like that, things changed.

Along came unheralded seventh-round draft pick Captain Munnerlyn, who stole the job right out from under Wilson’s feet.

“That was a hard one to take,” Wilson admitted.

Munnerlyn’s physical play at the line of scrimmage earned him the team’s No. 3 cornerback spot, dropping Wilson to fourth on the depth chart and dramatically reducing his playing time. Instead of being a regular contributor on passing downs, Wilson only played in seven games in 2009, finishing with seven tackles.

Now, entering his fourth season with the Panthers, he finds himself battling for a roster spot with two more seventh-round draft picks — Robert McClain from Connecticut and R.J. Stanford from Utah.

My favorite quote:

You have to have a nose for the ball,” Wilson said. “When I see that ball, it’s like a fat man at a barbeque. You’re going after that meat. You don’t want the coleslaw. You want the meat.”

I don't care who you are, that there is funny:smilielol5:
