They don't drink beer at room temperature (or at least not all of them). They drink it at cellar temperatures (50-60 degrees), which allows you to pick up on all of the flavors. You don't notice all of the flavors of a beer when it's 33 degrees, which is why many macrobrewed American lagers are served that way.

Depending on the beer, I could drink it anywhere between 45-55 degrees. Stouts are great as they approach room temperature.
