N.Y. vs N.Y. - Thoughts?

In the matchup of our opponent this Saturday and our opponent for week 1 of the regular season, anything stand out?

For me, the Jets keeping starters in for the first half was a welcomed sight...I hope we see it on Saturday. That would be another great test for our team.

I think this post will be moved.

Seriosuly though Victor Cruz reminds me more of Steve Smith then any wide recieiver I've ever seen. He just tore it up out there.

I really don't care about the Jets because we don't have to play them but either the Jets D-line is really good or the Giants O-line is pretty bad. I think it could be a little bit of both. True the Giants didn't have a few starters out there.

Either way I just think we are going to eat up the Giants like packman on opening day. Tom Caughlan is fired in atleast two years.

I like that Jets have to play again in 5 days.

I really <hope> our starters play the whole first half. I want to see MM and DJ start getting some chemistry together. Since it might be October before Smitty is completely ready.

I agree. At some point we have enough unknowns that it can only improve our chemistry to let them play. Hell, the Jets didn't look all that hot and everyone is praising them as the "next big thing". Why not put the hammer down at home? It's obvious that the fans at home need some positive reinforcement. Playing the Jets on five days rest and a road trip sounds like a great opportunity. Couple that with the fact that they just got their ass kicked on home opening day by the pathetic Giants. Hard Knocks indeed.....

Quick check from the Giants P.O.V. shows that they think their punter sucks...big time...Feagles is already missed and that is another point for the Panthers to consider for the opening day game. Pressure the punter....

Guy was kicking low line drives, with very little hang time. Too bad our special teams have looked like crap so far. Hopefully we get it together.

AE running back a punt on the opening gameday would be a pleasent suprise.

I hate to make comparisons to guys that I haven't seen much of, but this definitely crossed my mind when I was watching him. He plays exactly like Smitty in regards to his size/strength as well as his ability to go up and 'attack' the ball and take it from defenders. I don't think he's as fast, but he is definitely quick and explosive in short bursts. I was blown away. Would love to sign him but I don't see them letting him go after that showing. Could leave Ramses Barden or Hagan on the chopping block.

And btw, I don't care what we do come Saturday as long as our QBs helmets aren't blown 20 ft. off their head from a blindside hit and they walk off the field with their head leaking like Eli did tonight... Disgusting.

Yeah, all precipitated by Brandon Jacobs plowing into his own QB, knocking his helmet loose in the first place.

Some thoughts regarding these commments. The Jets defense looked good because they blitzed on every down much like Baltimore. Without gameplanning, it always looks good. Would like to see us use screens and misdirection plays to abuse the rush.

The Giants look ordinary on defense and offense, Cruz did look good, I figure he is going to make the 53 man roster. At 6'1" and 200 lbs he looked much bigger than Smith.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
