Question for fellow DVR enthusiasts...

With football season approaching, I am thinking of adding extra storage to my TWC Scientific Atlanta DVR box...

I found this nifty guide that basically says all I have to do is get my external hard drive with an SATA cable, unplug my DVR, plug in the hard drive and connect it to the DVR via SATA, reboot the DVR, let it format the newly recognized hard drive, then reboot it all again...

Is it really that simple?

I'd love to be able to DVR the entire season in HD and be able to hang onto it... a 1 TB external hard drive should easily do the trick, right?

Records in HD via a component input back to your PC. Hook it up to your DVR if you want and have fun.

Hauppauge HD PVR

From reading that, it sounds like it only holds 2 hours worth?

My main problem is storage space, and then the ability to get it to my PC... I could just record a couple games, burn them to DVD, rip the DVD to my PC, edit out the commercials, and then reburn them... But it would be nice to go from DVR, to hard drive, to PC, to DVD...

Mine didn't work but Ive heard mixed results from other TWC customers. Some people have it work while other don't. Its worth a try but I'm guessing that you'll be disappointed.

Don't feel bad mine doesn't worh either but my brother says he has no problem with his.

I find this very strange.

No this thing hooks to your PC through USB and to your receiver by component input. It will record directly to your PC where you can make edits and then store the file into your video library or put them onto dvd. Actually it will record into a format that can be burned directly to Blu Ray if you have the means.

It's pretty simple really. Anything I want to get off of my DVR I just hit play on my receiver and record on my PC before I go to bed.
