Trading premium draft assets to turn around and hand a massive contract to a guy who has missed a combined 10 games in the last two years is the EXACT type of move that this organization should NOT be making.

I would MUCH rather just draft T-Mac at #8. He projects similarly to Higgins IMO anyway. I would prefer a pass rusher at that spot but if we're this interested in adding a potentially elite receiver then just stop this mess of trying to give away draft assets and a huge chunk of cap and draft the guy.

Or the Iowa St. kid in the 2nd. Or Burden or Egbuka if we trade down.

We have ample options rather than spending crazy money.

But, as someone accurately pointed out in the RB thread, we rarely make wise decisions in the draft.

Yeah, we just can't be doing the double whammy of giving up premium draft picks to hand out massive cap eating contract. We need to try to add quality at a bargain and draft picks are by far your best bet to accomplish that. Free agents are one thing. That is only costing your cap space. Draft picks are another thing. That is only costing your draft assets. But trading premium picks for vets who are going to demand a top of the market contract is burning the candle at both ends.

The FA moves so far have been confusing. Some seem rooted in the reality of the fact that we aren't going to be making a big turnaround in year 2, however others seem like throwing caution to the wind and full steam ahead.

It's been odd.

I would certainly like to solidify the WR room but if the Bengals are being twats about the asking price then move on. It's already going to require an exorbitant investment and it is unknown if Higgins is even worth all that even if he stays healthy.

Exactly. If it’s going to take weeks, look at the draft or FA

As much as I would love any number of these star players on other teams, we need to be realistic here. We aren't going to fill all of our needs, wants, and dreams in one off-season. Some have been saying all off-season, we likely aren't going to get a WR1 this off-season. We need to upgrade some starters here and there and upgrade depth everywhere. Be smart about our cap and our draft capital for a change. We aren't 2 players away, let alone 1.
