Would’ve rather tried to get a RB in the draft. If for some reason we failed to do so, there still would’ve been plenty of FA RB’s available post draft to spell Chuba.. RB’s hang around the FA market longer than any other position. Morgan would rather be “loyal” to Brooks and prove to people it wasn’t a bad pick, than take advantage of a strong RB class. I don’t agree with Morgan’s strategy, but I rarely do.

I along with pretty much every one else disagree with you only 2.75m garenteed the draft is rightfully going to focus on defense and it's a bridge to get our 2nd round rb healthy.

Congrats on having a popular opinion.  I love that for you. Doesn’t make all of you correct though. Look back at the Miles Sanders signing thread and see how excited people were. Me personally, I’d rather not bank on a RB coming off back 2 back ACL tears who by the time when he actually plays again, will be almost 3 years since his last meaningful football reps. Two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s a stacked RB class. We should take advantage of it. We’re going to look back and kick ourselves when multiple RB’s from this draft class breakout who we passed on because we were waiting on our damaged goods RB.

You keep assuming we're not going to take a RB in this draft tho? This 1-year, $2.75m deal does not preclude the FO from drafting a back.

No one is "banking on him" first off Chuba is the bell cow when needed, second miles Sanders running behind the best offensive line in the NFL and coming in behind out awful 2023 line should have been expected (i expected it) even with the eagles he had the worst vision in a rb I've ever seen. VS Dowdle running behind a cowboys line that was 20 spots behind us in run block rating.

Also it's 2025 dude two ACL tears is doesnt mean squat we had a legendary LB I memba beary that came back from 3 consecutive ACL tears to get 2 all pros and I pro bowls.

A 22 year old with limited carries in college isnt a write off by a long shot.

Heck Gurley tore two ACLS IN COLLEGE.

But yeah no one is banking on anything seeing as we have a durable 26 year bell cow back...

I couldn’t disagree more. To say that 2 ACL tears in b2b years on the same knee is no big deal is insane. If ACL injuries aren’t a big deal, then why did he tear it again? How long will it take for him to trust his knee again? Will he ever? RB’s entire livelihood is making cuts, putting constant strain on their knees during each and every play. RB’s do quick, change of direction movements at a higher rate than any other position. Comparing an OLB to a RB is apples to oranges. There’s no comparison. Plus, TD is an outlier. What he accomplished doesn’t usually happen

Todd Gurley tore his ACL one time in college, not twice. And that same knee developed severe arthritis (sometimes arthritis is caused by previous trauma to the affected area) which ended his career. He never fully recovered from his knee injuries. Not the best example.

And if Morgan isn’t banking on Brooks, then why only the 1 year contract for Dowdle? Morgan is 100% banking on Brooks in 2026. He’s going to prove to the world that trading up to grab a damaged goods RB wasn’t dumb. Now we get to miss on Skattebo, Neal, Harvey, Hunter, Marks, Judkins, Smith, Sampson, Tuten etc in order to please Dan Morgan’s ego

I hope you’re right but based on how Morgan and the FO have operated in the past I doubt it. If we do, it will probably be a 6th or 7th round pick.

So, we swoop in last year and draft Brooks out from under Dallas last year. He re-injures himself and will miss all of 2025, so we sign their 2024 starter. "In his first year as a starter, Dowdle ran for 1,079 yards (12th in the NFL) with 5 touchdowns, adding 249 receiving yards for a total of 1,328 all-purpose yards — a breakout season that put him on the map."

1 year deal makes it sound like Brooks is still the long term plan., but I like this signing. PLUS we get to screw Dallas in the process. Win win.

Two 1000 yard running backs behind a stout oline, and the possibility to get another good one in the draft down the line. Bryce on the upswing and things looking much better. Spend most of the draft on defense and then bring it on.

Morgan said that he wanted to be a running offense. Last year he brings in the best 2 guard FA's and locks down Chuba long term. SO FAR, this year he's resigned Corbett, kept Mays, resigned Tremble who is a damned good blocker, regardless of whether you like his catching ability, and signed a top RB FA with proven NFL production last season. Also finally got out from under the terrible Sanders contract. Great job IMO.

    • This is such an incrediblely stupid take. I'm one of the ones saying we need to have a better backup than Andy Dalton and it has nothing to do with any Bryce hate. Take away the names and look at capabilities of our current QB1 and QB2.  Did you not see what happened to Miami last year? Tua goes down and with 2 of the best WRs in football their juggernaut offense looks like preschool yard ball.  We need to be developing a 2nd QB if we're serious about a playoff run. Dalton showed he isn't good enough to get it done for multiple games. Now whether that means bringing in a different vet or actually trying to develop QB talent for once in franchise history, we need to be looking elsewhere to better the overall team.  Having a reliable backup is a good thing. DA wasn't great, but he was serviceable for a little bit if Cam got hurt. DC is supposed to be a QB whisper so let him whisper to 2 QBs and the team is in a better position. Injuries are part of football. You need to be as best prepared as you can be for the inevitable. I'd be making the same argument if we had Mahomes or Brady and not Bryce.
    • Looking at Scourtons tape he reminds me so much of Rucker
    • I really like this draft, not really a reach or bad pick at all in the bunch. I can see every single player drafted making an impact this season with 3 definite starters and Evans that should get a ton of snaps at TE2.   NALO has all the skills and size you look for in a WR1 and should make an immediate impact on offense. Horn will return punts as a rookie and learn a lot techniques from AT.  Scourton has the size, skills and intensity to be a day 1 starter at Strong side OLB and make a noticeable impact for the defense.  Princely will see snaps but will take a little longer than Scourton to become a starter. Needs to add functional weight and strength to his frame to be a 3 down starter.  Will break down further after my head scans.
