Smith: "Trying to get chump-proof"

I used to play opposite a DG who wore a big assst concrete (at least it felt like concrete) cast! I learned to respect that injury because he'd whomp you wid dat sledge if you did ent! Fear the club!

I always felt that guys wearing casts had somewhat of an advantage rather than a disadvantage because as you say they could just pound you with it.

Personally it was refreshing in a way to hear Gregg Williams plans for Favre and Warner. It got a little dirty with Favre but it seems like nobody wants to admit to the violent nature of football anymore. Part of the game is hitting guys(legally) until they just want to stop playing.

The game is getting more and more refined each year which is good for the health of the players. No job should give you a life of pain like many of these guys will have to endure.

supposedly they have fabricated some prototype graphite cast that smitty can wear over his forearm to prevent damage from a shot like he took in the giants game.

i would like to see him pop that safety in the mouth with it as he cruises into the endzone.

this giants game could be epic for smitty, he has sooo much ammunition to be pissed about these guys, its unbelievable.

Without opening up the thread to a hundred posts about it, the defining words is legal hit. Williams definition is that we will hit him late, from behind, in the knees, etc. and as long as it isn't called, it is legal. Even if it is, as long as it inflictes damage, it is worth the measely 15 yard penalty.

I asked about this when he re-injured it, but I had wondered if they would let him wear some type of protective sleeve with like a plate in it or something to protect the arm... But, someone reminded me, when he 're-broke' it playing flag football, it was a non-contact break... no one else caused it, he broke it by trying to use that hand/arm to brace a fall...

That's what worries me. On top of that, look at the hit The Golden Calf of Bristol took on his TD run last night... If Smitty takes one like that now, I don't trust it to hold up.

Correct, the cast wont protect against any type of straight on hit like when he broke it during the FF game, like trying to brace from a fall. But, it will protect against a helmet hit, or getting stepped on under a pile or something. it wont be 100% protection, but better than nothing for sure.

I would think it would be quite dangerous for the other players around actually. Casts can hurt like hell.
