Per Yasinskas: Quarterback Competition?

You think that the FO would really not consider signing Moore if he leads us to the NFCCG?

I think that is what it will most likely take for him to stick with Clausen here.

I think if he gets us to a playoff game he will be resigned...but with how things are going now I have no clue.

If the Panthers are hyping Clausen even more than most folks thought or might be reasonable at this point, it reinforces the whole idea that they plan to make Clausen the quarterback of the future no matter what Moore does. If Richardson is going down the cheap route and they know 2 things:

1. that they are going to let Moore go at the end of this year anyway

2. Fox is going to be gone too so this is a rebuilding year

Then it makes sense to play Clausen no matter who is the better guy. And you would put him in there no matter who gives you the best chance to win.

If Clausen gets work with the 1s this week you have to consider that they are looking down the road and have already decided who their quarterback will be next year and are grooming him now despite what happens with Moore.

Due to the hype of Clausen's potential and the skills he already produces, I would expect him to be the QB of the future.. this I do agree with.. and find myself hoping he is the real deal (if not elite)..

I'm not sure I buy because the coaches like him more than expected means he'll be playing sooner than later.. Sure, in a year, is a definite possibility.. But not this year, or perhaps I'm hoping for: not this year..

if he plays with the 1s, that could lend us evidence.. I just don't see the benefit of throwing him in there this year.. not to mention the money Moore is getting, but then they may look at that as a byproduct of ensuring there is at least 1 decent QB on the roster before Clausen was even picked.. perhaps they are willing to ignore that money if Clausen plays better.. I'm just not sure how much better he is going to play in his rookie year than Moore..

and I definitely don't see the benefit of throwing him in the Lion's den this early.. The one positive we have to offer than most other rookie QB's is our OLine play, but even the Jets OLine couldn't keep Sanchez from throwing a shitload of INTs...

I'm sure you agree with most of this, I'm just speaking out loud...

That will cause a big problem for the Panthers concerning Moore and Fox. What happens if they actually overachieve and do better than expected. Fans will want to keep them and it be hard to convince them that Dumping Moore and Fox isn't an efort to go cheap versus getting better, younger, etc.

this is a situation I hope we face.. I really hope we have to go there.. Draft picks baby! or at least, a solid QB if Moore is the one kept.. lol

I love Moore, but the best option for the team would be for Moore to play well all season, with Clausen showing tremendous promise as the No. 2. If we're up by a good amount in some games, by all means, put him out there.

Then, at the end of the season, franchise Moore and trade him for picks, letting Clausen take over for the future.

I hate saying that, as I've been a fan of Moore for a long time and think he has what it takes to be a great starter in this league, but we're not going to have someone like Clausen riding the bench if he does indeed play to his potential.

I also hope he doesn't see the field this year and gets time to develop. Still the hype up to now was mostly from the outside. If there is a lot of hype internally it suggests more is going on that we may have thought. And Richardson's influence may be driving more of the long range plan than we know. Lets be honest, Clausen looked good for a rookie against Baltimore but he didn't exactly look good. After all he was in there for 2 quarters and produced 0 points. Compare that with The Golden Calf of Bristol who played in the second half and went 8-13 for 105 yards and a running touchdown. It seems to me that both he and Clausen are backups and projects at this point not starters.

Dumping Moore and Fox would not necessarily equate out to the Panthers being better, and in fact there is a good chance that doing so would make them worse. That doesn't mean it isn't an acceptable risk, but we must always remember the green grass and fence principle.

He produced zero points thanks to a fumble but moved the ball very efficiently! I hope Moore starts, I have liked him for a long time but just the hype around Clausen has to make him uncomfortable!

Efficiently is more than 2 drives in 2 quarters. I counted 6 or 7 first downs in a half of football. And half of those were runs where he did nothing but hand it off. You really call that efficient? Yeah for a backup but not a starter.
