Dwayne Jarrett finally showing moves and maturity Panthers hoped for from 2007 draft

I thought is was interesting that he has yet to take the responsibility for all his issues. He admits it is a learning curve and that he was young but he still feels he took a bunch of low blows as he calls them. Seems to me he got exactly what he deserved and in the meantime took several million dollars for next to nothing in production.

I hope he produces for us and does well this year. I also hope he figures out that he owes a lot to the team for sticking with him this long when he negotiates for his next contract. Given what he has done the last few years, he still owes us about 2 years for free.

Noticed that, too.

He's probably gone either way. Either he has a good/great season and we let him go for the cheaper guy we just drafted (LaFell) .. or he disappoints (yet again) and we let another team try to develop him for four years. I also get the vibe that he doesn't like it much here.

If he has a good/great season why would we let him go? LaFell could not work out (as lots of WRs have done here)....or LaFell could be great. Either way it goes....why would we ditch Jarrett if he plays great this year? It ain't like we are stacked at WR so dumping a guy that finally is playing well doesn't make much sense.

that is just the Jarrett hate clouding judgement imo.

Then there's the way he forgot before Thursday's game to take out the spike piercing under his lip - an odd choice of facial jewelry - and you can't help but laugh sometimes.

Facial stud?

Yep, dwayne's a fudge on the low.

The optimist in me would read this quote, "The NFL, if anybody could do it, everybody would be doing it", and think, "wow, Dwayne Jarrett is really maturing."

The skeptic in me though would ask, "haven't we seen this same exact article right before the regular season on many occasion?"

I wouldn't look to this article as any concrete evidence.. that's what the regular season will be for.. hope, however, sure.. but I wouldn't build that hope up so much for a huge let down..

as with any player on the team, I HOPE he steps up in a big way..

First, I doubt he'd even want to sign with us. Very similar to Fox at this point, I think no matter what happens, he's gone at the end of the season with a handshake and a smile.

Second, if he wins the #2 spot and has an average/mediocre (300-700 yard) season, we let him walk. Why keep him? He's hit his ceiling with us and is clogging up the roster.

Third, if he wins the #2 spot and has a breakout (700+) season, he's going to want to get paid. I'm not sure we pay him what he wants when he only emerged for one year of four, in a contract year -- provided he wants to stay in Carolina.

Fourth, we drafted LaFell. Jarrett and LaFell are of very similar type and why keep both? I can see Jarrett finishing out his rookie contract and mostly keeping LaFell on the bench this season, not so much in future seasons.

Also, no hate involved, I don't know him. I think he's disappointing and a bust, but I'm wrong about 14 times a day. If he catches fire this season, awesome, I'll cheer like a motherfuger.

On your 1st point, I can see that being the case... This I do agree with.. but hey, if he's smart, he'll come back.. we have no competition! lol

2nd, if he has a 300 yard season, that's below average.. if he has a 700 yard season, I'll be ecstatic.. as for his contract, that's where Hurney comes in, and we'll see what happens.. but I wouldn't confuse 300 yard/season with 700... and you are making a huge assumption that he's hit his ceiling.. in 3 years you may be proven right, but right now, all you have is a huge assumption.. I don't like to think in terms of assumptions, but that's me.. I like to wait for an answer, if I already don't have one, instead of forcing an inaccurate answer...

3rd, if you have 2 very capable receivers (we are talking hypothetical at the moment), the dumbest thing we could do is let them both go just because we have 2 of the same "type" of receiver.. 2 is better than 1, and right now Smitty is the only 1.. if we have 3 capable receivers, you don't ship one out just because.. that makes no sense... I read this in another thread 2day, that's stupid, if not ignorant...

and 4th, I agree with you here.. we all are disappointed with him, but I think if we stand back and look at his immaturity and age, that we might kick ourselves once he does mature and learns a little work ethic.. no one of value is being kept off the roster to keep Jarrett on.. actually, after Smitty, we are splitting hairs to find someone of more value, which says alot considering there is no one after Smitty... (LaFell still has alot to prove)

During a team period at practice Sunday afternoon that focused on the two-minute offense, with one snap left before the clock would expire, Jarrett steamed up the right sideline, found a spot in the back corner of the end zone and turned to snag a high ball delivered on time and on target by Matt Moore.

"That's a touchdown, in case you didn't know," Smith smugly proclaimed from the sideline.

Seems like he finally has Smitty on his side as well.....production will gain the confidence and respect of his teammates. If Dwayne goes out on Sundays and leaves it all on the field and produces for this team when called upon his teammates will love him. He's always had the talent he just needs to put it together. In 2010 I'm a believer that he will do just that....

He had one catch. The other dose not count because of penalty's. Yea he did do good last season when we used him in the slot and did not require him to run any other route besides a crossing one. He was beat badly on every other route and thats why he didnt get the ball. Everyone loved Drew Carter before Jarrett. Like Jarrett he was great as long as you didnt make him run but one route.

In that respect, Wes Welker technically only runs 1 route every play... Yet he's godlike to some people.. As long as he demands respect over the middle, I could care less what route he runs.

That's a great point Welker has been running that crossing route over the middle almost every play for three years now, who cares what the route is as long as he makes the catch and moves the chains....

Wouldn't be surprised if Jarrett has a good season to see him bolt for a new contract elsewhere to make more without any concern for how much we gave him for meager results. In some ways Carter did the same thing. We decided what he was worth to us and someone else paid him a lot more.
