Let's Discuss This Idea Before It's Too Late

Our linebacker lineup isn't permanently set yet. So lets discuss this idea

Since reading the idea of moving Brown to linebacker and Norwood to DE, idk. James back to WLB, Beastson is MLB, I dont see what's wrong trying Brown out for SLB, he's got the size. I dont think it would be a hard job for Brown neither

I'm still iffy on Brown being an great DE and I'm iffy on our linebacker lineup

We got Johnson, Norwood (who I believe given a chance will be a better pass rusher than Brown), Brayton, Hardy, I say we keep Moore, Eric that is, and we will blitz our linebackers from time to time

What you think? And I know Weakside is the focal point, but we lost Davis. Injuries are a part of the game, and dont mean we should just take our best linebacker and move him just cause we can. IMO we still have a lot of time to try it

We have to consider the fact that Beason may just be out of sync in the spot he is, and MLB is where we need him. I'd give any of your suggestions some merit...as you say, it is early, and by next week we do need to see what we got and what they got to contribute.

right LBs, adjust the lineup.

Beaston-MLB-his home

Conner-SLB-let dan take on TEs/FBs/dirty work

Anderson-WLB-he showed play-maker skills here while filling in for davis(i was shock, gave up on him in 2008)

i hope the panthers wake up and at-least try this setup.

pass down DE- Brown-needs another year of growing(weight room, football IQ, film room, etc)

Nice over reaction to the first preseason game.

Conner is good. I don't think he'll be better on the outside than he is in the middle. He is a naturaal mike.

Beason will make the adjustment, and well be cheering for the plays they make.

Funny how so many over reacting to this...knowing full well that the reaction will be much worse when there is worse play from a different lineup.

I understand beason has done great for us at the mike position....but moving him back to mike isn't going to help if the other olb plays even worse than our all pro linebacker did at the same position.

Brown can't play linebacker.... sorry but I'm sure Fox and company would have tried this if it were a realistic possibility.

Honestly it's a good thing Brown is getting some competition for the pass-rushing d-end position. We were so worried about our pass rush, and now that we have some legitimate competition at the position we cant just let the players decide? Brown is incredibly young give him time to develop.

And Beason will do just fine at the Will position, it's obviously going to take him a little time to get adjusted. I'm more surprised Foxey would take this risk considering Beason was an anchor on our defense and how important winning is this year for the Panthers. I do think Connor is better as a Mike linebacker as oppose to a Sam.

Brown = no pass coverage.

Norwood is already sketchy in pass coverage, which is the main reason he may not see the field as much as some of you hope he will.

4-3 DE is a MASSIVELY different position than 4-3 OLB. The difference is no so great in a 3-4 but in a 4-3 all of your responsibilities change, it would take Brown at least a year or maybe 2 to get the drift from DE to OLB. So its not gonna happen.

I think you'd find a pretty solid percentage of fans here favor putting Beason back in the middle. It's the outside configuration that's the subject of debate.

And I'll say here what I said elsewhere: If we ran a 3-4, Brown would make sense as an OLB. But we don't, so he doesn't.

Freeny and Mathis were not instant hits in Indy under Meeks. GIve him a chance. He had a lot of QB pressures last year. He is not out of position. Good thing about us is this: We can go small and quick (Brown, Norwood) or big and bad (Hardy, Johnson, Brayton)--Brown will serve a role that may not have been staged last week. Still, he is a good player, is adjusting to the added weight. We should feel damn good about the DE position now that we are serving up sacks pepper-free and focus on another position.
