Kayak Fishing?

Anyone ever been? Looks like a fun hobby. I like the idea of taking a fishing kayak to local lakes that I don't feel like towing a boat to. Be good for camping too. Looks like I could also take it on vacation to florida or out to the coast and fish the inlands.

My FiL was doing it a lot until his recent surgery... since that we've borrowed one of his kayaks and are going to do some kayaking in the waterway here. We kayaked in the White Oak River two weeks ago and that was a lot of fun. He showed me all of his fishing gear for the kayak. I'm not good enough at it yet that I wouldn't flip it trying to fish out of it...

Was it the sit in type or the sit on type?

Yes thata sit on top type. Have been reading its a bit hard to stay stable. The sit in types generally are much easier to stay up as the center of gravity is lower.

That's what it looked like to me too... we used the two seater to go out in the river and it wasn't too bad, but it would definitely take practice to be able to fish out of it.

Someone on here is an avid Kayak fisherman (mostly saltwater). I forget who it is but they would post about it in the Rebel Yell forum and I always found it interesting.

One of my friends fathers has a large 2-person ocean kayak he has let my friend and I borrow for a bit of light surf/off-shore fishing here. I enjoyed it a lot, if only for the free-roaming ability and the peace and quiet we could drink our beers in.

I used to kayak fish all the time at Wrightsville Beach. In fact they have a tournament every year. I haven't had much time to do it the last two years. Still have the kayak though. Make sure you find one with some storage space. Pelican and Perception make the best models in my opinion. They're perfect for getting to the Red Fish in the shallow creeks.

I've always wanted to get into kayaking. I might end up buying a cheap one for $200 or so.
