Greg Hardy may have leaped Everette Brown in the lineup

LOL! We gave up a 1st round pick for a guy that is the 4th best DE on the roster. Whats worse is that he is being outplayed by a rookie 6th round draft pick. Brilliant move Marty Hurney!

But what if the guy in the 6th round is a steal and becomes Julius Peppers with heart and a motor? Does that make Marty Hurney stupid? ;)

Wells its not like Greg Hardy was some unknown guy from some D1 school that Hurney unearthed..It was already known Hardy had this skill that was not the major problem

Come ON!! The only pick in the past two or three years you can bitch about is Everette Brown? He will make you eat your words. Hurney is keeping us from becoming the Lions or someone like them. Look at the talent on our team we got in the late rounds recently (4th or later): King, Rosario, Barnidge, Norwood, Hardy, Schwartz, Munnerlyn, Bernadeau, Fiametta, Gettis, Pike, Pugh, CJ Wilson, etc.

Look at players we bring in with late round picks: Chris Harris/Jamal Williams, Louis Leonard, Tank Tyler.

Look at the undrafted free agents we picked up: Matt Moore, Sutton, R. Jackson, C. Martin, H. Cantwell.

Then there are bargain free agents like K. Moore, Brayton, E. Johnson.

THen look at the players we have that were great values when we drafted them (projected to go much higher than they did): Clausen, D. WIlliams, Connor, LaFell, Kalil, Robinson, Marshall, Pike, Godfrey, S. Martin, etc.

Now look at the high priced free agents we have on the roster: We don't have any. Wright? Hudson? Francisco?

Bottom line: We are going to be competitive for a long time, as long as Hurney is the GM. I have 20 million reasons why I would rather have Hardy and his motor over Peppers. Louis Leonard is fine with me over Haynesworth. I will take Moore and Clausen over Bradford and his salary. Everybody is quick to judge. Lafell is going to be fine this year. Jarrett may step up. Kenny Moore is ready. Things are pretty damn good right now, and you want to make fun of the Brown pick? It was a good pick, and will pay off for the next 10 years. First scrimmage and you go off-what the hell is that?

Brayton won't be back for at least a few games. Wouldn't be surprised if he got the rest of the preseason off. Hardy, Brown and Johnson will all get plenty of work. In the regular season I wouldn't be surprised if we go with Johnson and Brayton on running downs and move both of them inside and put Hardy and Brown on the ends on passing downs. Mix in Norwood for good measure on a blitz from the outside , and we should be able to get some push. I have high hopes for Louis and Johnson as well inside.

It will be good to get Tyler back as well. With the exception of Brayton everyone else needs all the reps they can get.

Last year's sack production from the d-line:

Pep 10.5

T Brayton 5

C. Johnson 4

E. Brown 2.5 Total 11.5

And these are really the only d-linemen who contributed sacks...

To equal the production of last year (which ranked 23rd in the league, Minnesota at #1 had 17 more sacks that us) we need at least one of these players to get 10+ sacks. I don't see it happening.

If we can't even equal the production of last year...our defense is going to get eaten up...

Enter Hardy and Norwood...Can these guys combine for 10+ sacks???

I have a hard time seeing that happening.

I'm glad the d-line didn't look like posers against Balt (who does have a decent O-line) and I'm still glad they let Pep go, but I just can't imagine this group of players being dominant.

Brown is the weak link, Johnson is only good for about 5 sacks...Where is the production going to come from???

So if we can get 2 additional sacks out of Brayton,Johnson, and Brown and hopefully Hardy can get 4, we just replaced Peppers at 1/100th the cost.

I asked Gantt on Twitter if Hardy was with the ones because of what CarolinaGrowl said on Twitter and this was his reply:

With Brayton out, most of the work's going to Everette Brown, but he'll rotate some. RT @Varking So Hardy with the first team now?

So according to him Everette Brown is indeed getting most of the reps with the ones.
