D-Will and J-Stew are awesome. I've been thinking lately of joining their exclusive DoubleTrouble3428 club.

Cheesy I know, but I'm all about the inside scoop. Anybody else a member? Shoot me a PM and tell me if it's worth it to join.

Sorry, back to the thread topic...

I may have to go dig up my breakdown of former coaches winning SB's with other teams.

It's tough to do.

Bellicheat/ Coughlin(still amazes me), Shanahan(Elway)/ Dungy and Gruden/ Marv Levy went but didn't win/ thats off the top of my head the last 20 years or so.

I'm sure I missed some.

IF.... and this is a big if... Fox can pull out a winning record with a team of rookies and untested backups... I would give him props and hope we keep him.

Now... some people will want to say, "But we need to make it to the playoffs." To which I can only reply... "Not really... not this year". Our roster is way too young to expect that, and our schedule isn't exactly roses (better than last year's tho).

If... and this is a highly doubtful if... we do make it to the playoffs this year... there's no question he should stay for awhile.

I agree with a few limitations.

We all know Fox is a conservative coach, which overall is good for us, but one thing that has always pissed me off has been his inability to adjust at halftime. It's killed us in more games than I'd like to remember. Also, his seemingly notorious acceptance of settling for 'three points too often' drives me bat sh*t too. I'd like to see his more aggressive side come to the fore, like it was when he first got here. He challenged his players to play harder and tougher than they had been, because he knew they were capable of doing so. I'd like to see his gum-chewing accompany the ass-kicking attitude of yesteryear again. He's not had a good track record of this since 2005, imo, and it'll be hard to accept his retention if he continues this way.

There is hope though that he's decided to change his habits. I know JR had a lot to do with the vet releases, but Fox had to sign off on them. To me, this shows he's capable of changing his ways from previous years where he'd hold on to vets and start them until they dissipated into dust. I won't be surprised if there's five or six rookies or 2nd year guys starting this year. At least a bunch will get heavy rotation time, which is a good thing that we've needed for years now.

If he can do all this, then by all means, I'd love to have Foxy back again for another tour of duty. Just remember though Fox, nice guys don't win ball games all too often. When the other team is down, kick em in the doughnuts, step on their necks, and spit in their eye when they look up at you! Get back to your roots man... challenge your team and yourself to be tougher and perform better. Carolina needs it.

This reminds me of when I was trying to scout all potential 2011 Quarterbacks that could be draft eligible. I went to the Ohio State Buckeyes forum and noticed tons of threads where people were calling Tressel the most conservative coach in the country. It took him two years to let his best athlete in Pryor actually run with the football. He is a coach that loves to win with defense and special teams, and puts far too much emphasis on punting for field position. Chances are if he opened up his offense it would surprise a defense, and with an athlete like Pryor, the less you keep the ball out of the air, the better it is for them.

Fwiw, I feel very good about our future at the QB spot. But not so much about our future with the coach. Hiring a new coach is always a gamble, and if we don't keep Fox, the odds are we will end up worse off than we are now.

I agree. I believe, as of now, the only coach on the market who is equal to or better than Fox is Cowher. And if our owner doesn't want to pay Fox top 10 money, why would he pay Cowher top 10 money? Anything else is going to be a step down unless some up and coming young coordinator steps up this season and wants to be a head coach next year.

Its simple, Go look at how many WINNING seasons Fox has; not .500 or right below but WINNING! You will see it isn't as great as some people on these boards make it seems...especially with the talent this team has fielded under him. And yes there have been injuries but there are injuries with every team good coaches develop talent...its obvious Fox's squad of coaches fail at QB development and WR development! Now, go look at Bill's overall body of work, i think he missed the playoffs like 4 years TOTAL...he didn't settle for .500 seasons, he wins...with injuries!

Say what you like about the people around him, scouting or whatever...head coach pics his team of personell; are you saying Bill is smart and surrounds himself with smart people? Sounds good to me, bring it on!
