Clausen running with the ones???

At about 44 seconds into the vid, there's a shot of Clausen taking a snap from Kalil... Wharton was on the line, with DW and Jackson in the backfield. From what I could tell, this was the first string offense, minus Fiammetta. So riddle me this... why have Clausen take snaps with the ones so early in the preseason if he's just gonna be the backup? I'm sure he'll get time with the ones during practice in the regular season... but I kind of thought these preseason reps would all belong to Moore since he's the "unquestioned" starter...

Someone enlighten me. Couldn't find any info on this anywhere.

Matt moore is a known commidity. He is a vet.

They gotta find out what they got in clausen in the pre season if they are going to trust him as even the main backup qb...or go to him in regular season if moore struggles.

just seems like they're jumping the gun a bit, don't you think? I mean, he's gonna get hella reps in the 3rd and 4th preseason games.

or I'm reading too much into it. I bet he'd play even better if he had the starting offensive line blocking for him. He's probably tired of scrambling for his life since he had to deal with it all through college.

Fox is probally giving Moore that little bit of pressure he had last season to compete. Since the start of training camp it's been his job to lose. Hopefully it'll work.

I thought about this, and was going to make a thread about it, but wasn't really driven to post anything until this was posted... BUT, I've been thinking... Moore was only tendered for 1 year this year.

Knowing he would be the starter and how he performed last year, why would we go and draft Clausen AND Pike anyway with other positions of needs. You don't draft Clausen to sit behind another guy for his entire rookie contract.

The more I've thought about it, I think Clausen was less about this year and more so about the years to come. I really think we're just letting Matt play out this year and then letting Clausen take over as the cheap, young QB future. I really believe JR's plan to get all the old guys out and clear salary had something to do with us taking Clausen. Moore, along with DLo and all those guys are pretty much being used for 1 year... Depending on what happens with the lockout, I think we'll extend DLo, TD, and Kalil once an agreement is made.

And if that all works out without having to franchise any of those guys to bring them back, I believe we'll franchise MM and then trade him to the highest bidder.

Yeah, but how do you explain Wharton being out there, and DW? Kalil, I can see that as a possibility... but even so, seeing this kind of clarifies where our QB's stand. Moore, Clausen and then Cantwell... and I honestly wish we would just get rid of Cantwell. He's sooooo horrible. But anyway, I have a feeling that Moore will be franchised at the end of the season too and then traded. There's quite a bit of teams looking for a starting QB right now. Perhaps the Chiefs would like to do business again? Cassel looks like a down-syndrome baby after he gets sacked.

I am happy for him. I like Moore but Clausen will eventually surpass him. Moore right now is a better option but Clausen seems to have more potential. I loved the way he called out defenses and wanted control. I want to see how he looks against first team defenses. I think he will be great and I am loving this pick.

Didn't Matt have a practice off in the past week? That would leave Clausen to take reps with the 1s by default.
