Somewhat lost in the defeat was this fact: The Panthers basically played the sort of football they want to play. They thoroughly out-rushed Baltimore (142-61) and won the turnover battle (3-2). They just didn’t score enough, and their pass defense was suspect.

Can you imagine the superlatives ESPN would have come up with for Jimmy Clausen’s debut if the guy had actually thrown a touchdown pass? It was over the top as it was. Let’s be clear here. Matt Moore is the Panthers’ best quarterback. Clausen is the clear No. 2. Barring injury, that’s not going to change anytime soon.
