Rule change equals hurt QB's

the new rule change blows. putting an extra set of eyes behind the left tackle, as the announcers stated, will result in more holding penalties. left tackles will have a tough year ahead of them. as if the position wasn't hard enough as most of the best DE's rush the blind side. the season will start off with tons of drive killing penalties, lower scoring games, longer games with additional stoppages and eventually, left tackles will have to ease up ever so slightly on how they defend DE's and this will give the super aggressive DE's the edge they need to attack resulting in more sacks, more QB fumbles and quite possibly more hurt QB's than in years past.

it looks like clausen might just start this year after all. hell, pike might even get a chance to start and who knows, we might have to bring testaverde back off the sofa to close out the season.

So we are supposed to be upset because OL won't be able to hold all day long anymore?

Personally, I think this is great. With all of the rule changes giving an advantage to the offense it is about time something came along to help out the D a little.

Pike had no velocity on his throws last night. Why did he only play one drive and then was replaced by cantwell again. That throw to the backup TE that was dropped had pretty good touch on it but was thrown too soft. But it did hit the TE in the hands and he had open field behind him and enough time to get up after the catch to have a huge gain.

EDIT: This post was replying to the last sentence in your post jester. I know its off topic from the concept of the thread.

The new rule change killed gross last night. That second holding penalty was a bs call, that was just damn good pass protection.

If you are correct, would this not be the case for both teams?

yes, hence the drive killing penalties, lower scoring, longer games, more injured QB's.......

too bad more people weren't interested in my defense only fantasy league. it might have out performed the traditional offensive minded leagues!

actually im just ranting because of he bum deal gross got. he and other LT's will get the shaft this year. i think that they have the single toughest job on the entire team physically and making it even more difficult for them doesn't help football.

you read it here first: i predict that this rule will be changed back for next season.

Is this set in stone? I thought they said last night that the umpire lined up in the offensive backfield for only part of the game, leading me to believe this is a pre-season experiment.

They'll be lining up there at all times other than within two minutes of the half and of the game. I think the main reason is concern for Umpires, although I've never seen one injured.
