Some receiver names to consider

Only 5??? 6 is the minimum with all the recievers we have. Our 3 DPs, Smitty, and Wright. That 5 right there. Then between K.Moore or Jarrett, that'll be 6. Or even if they do decide to cut Gettis to keep both Jarrett and Moore (that means 3 DPs cut, which is the highest ever under Fox) thats still 6.Theres no way we keep just 5.

Sorry mang, but never has the number of wr's in camp dictated how many you keep. It is dictated by ALL of the positions on the 53 man roster. There simply isnt room on the roster for more than 6 receivers and there really shouldnt be room on the Panthers roster for more than 5 considering where our game focuses. Fox loves his linemen and rb's. . then theres, of course, special teams.

I wont be the one to break done position by position who will still and why, because frankly, Im too lazy, but I can tell you "FO SHO!" we arent keeping more than 6 and very likely arent keeping more than 5.

Smith, Lafell, AE, Wright, (winner of Moore/Jarrett) and I agree, Mr. Scot, Gettis to the PS.

It's gonna be interesting if Gettis can master some route running and blocking by this time next year.

Im not sure if we're agreeing or not, but we have a project in Edwards and Gettis has shown flashes of his potential. He's just gotta have a little bit of time till he shines. So thats 2 WRs there. And then you have a ST player in Wright. So right there half the WRs aren't 100% ready or specialize in another area. Thats why only having 5 is too small and 6 is just about the right number.

Updating some of the guys listed in this thread:

The injury to Donte Stallworth makes it more likely the Ravens keep both Clayton and Williams. Clayton's actually been injured too.

Torry Holt is on IR with the Pats, as are Malcolm Kelly and Mike Furrey with the Redskins. Holt's injury means Sam Aiken probably stays with the Patriots, and Kelly being out would seem to make it less likely the Skins parts ways with Devin Thomas. Given that his last injury was another concussion, Furrey is probably done in the NFL.

Marko Mitchell was cut by the Vikings, so he's available now. He's a guy that I like but the team has yet to show any interest in him. Maybe after final cuts, but probably not. The only spot likely still up for grabs is the number two spot, and I don't think he's that good.

I've read that Troy Williamson might be on the bubble with the Jags. Other than local ties, not sure there's much to be interested in there.

Everyone else is pretty much still in the same status they were when this thread was started. Deion Branch (Seahawks) Josh Reed (Chargers) and Ramses Barden (Giants) are the names that register most with me. Michael Clayton (Bucs) is probably a more likely candidate than any of them, though.

As I've said before, if I were predicting the roster right now, the receivers would be...

Smith (number one)

Jarrett (the biggest question)

LaFell (not ready for the number two role...yet)

Martin (special teamer)

Edwards (the project, likely inactive on game day, at least early on)

The only position of that lineup that might still be in play is Jarrett's. If someone better comes available, he'd be the one to suffer.

The chances of that happening? Impossible to predict right now.

I think we keep 6 wrs, considering LaFell and Edwards are rookies who need to be brought along, and Jarrett is a big question mark. Very possible that Smith and Martin are the two most dependable WRs we have. Martin at the #2 for a while? We shall see. Gettis will make the team--according to my statistics, he has a 59.4% chance. I never was worth a damn in math though.

abit of an intangiible but Smitty has really not taken anyone under his wing and having a veteran to mentor would not be such a bad thing.DJ in my opinion is on the last year of a contract and barring a miricle will not be here next year so I why bother keeping him.

I think there is a slim to none chance that we sign another WR. I think we will go into the season with a subset of what we already have.

I don't agree with it....but I just don't see an addition in our future.

Come on Hurney and Fox....prove me wrong.

What he said. Look at the lack of activity in the past 12 months with free agency. I don't agree with it, but it isn't going to change all of a sudden. The Panthers have gone head first with the guys they have and they are going to give them a chance. I wouldn't write off the receivers yet. Once Smitty gets in, everything changes. I think LaFell has looked pretty good considering he is a rookie.

Before we start writing receivers off, name one receiver that has been productive in their first year? The only one I can think of is Desean Jackson.
