Some receiver names to consider

I dont see us picking up a castoff from another team, who may be no better than our current stable of younguns. I think if we go after a more veteran wr it will be for a guy we are going to have to do some wheeling and dealing to get and will be around here for a few years.

I shudder to think what our recieving core would be like if Smitty breaks his arm, leg, etc again at the season opener.

We should have just f**king signed Terrell Owens.

Brandon Marshall.. cheaper true #1... set for years even after Smitty... but allow me to digress... Miami had a better offer to Denver anyhow... (oh wait, they had to give up two 1st round picks!!11!!1! OMGZZZ)

A few more...

Sam Aiken, Patriots – big guy, local ties (UNC alum); formerly a ST captain with the Pats but might get squeezed out if they decide to keep Torry Holt

Michael Clayton, Bucs – has always been a better blocker than receiver; this year expected to be his “last chance” year with the Bucs

Josh Reed, Chargers – former pupil of Tyke Tolbert; older (30) and might have lost a step; could be out in SD if they can settle with Vincent Jackson

Ramses Barden, Giants – huge (6’6); has flashes but still extremely raw; fairly low on the Giants totem pole right now but I doubt they part with him; possible though

Yamon Figurs, Raiders – smallish, but very fast; strictly a return man though; signed as a free agent but might be expendable with Jacoby Ford on roster

...

I don't think we'll see the team pick up another WR. If they do, though, it may be one of these guys, preferably from a team we will play this year. The recon that player could provide is worth quite a bit sometimes.

we only traded 2 2nd rounders

and got this years 2nd rounder back by trading down with san diego, so we got koa misi.

I'm very much aware of that... I was offering a ton of sarcasm there to the masses who couldn't fathom Marshall coming to Carolina because Denver wouldn't take anything less than two 1st round picks..

Obviously, they were wrong and Miami got hell of a deal...

If we pick up someone, he would have to be better than whoever wins the battle of jarrett vs k.moore because I doubt we carry more than 6 WRs and I still dont believe they'll cut Gettis.

I think we'll only carry five, which means Gettis on the practice squad.

You never know. If this "maturity" from Dwayne Jarrett is really true, maybe we won't need anyone else. That really is the best case scenario.

But I'm not willing to bet on it just yet.

Only 5??? 6 is the minimum with all the recievers we have. Our 3 DPs, Smitty, and Wright. That 5 right there. Then between K.Moore or Jarrett, that'll be 6. Or even if they do decide to cut Gettis to keep both Jarrett and Moore (that means 3 DPs cut, which is the highest ever under Fox) thats still 6.Theres no way we keep just 5.
