Some receiver names to consider

So, aside from Smith, there is DJ, LaFell, Moore, Edwards, Gettis, Wright, Martin, Guy, Jackson, Young. Safe to say right now that Guy, Jackson, and Young are out. Martin is likely out also. DJ, LaFell, and Edwards were high draft picks, so they are likely here in the forseeable future. I would guess we carry 5 WR's, but 6 as the absolute max.

If we were to pick up a veteran who is released from another team, or work an unlikely trade, who else from our WR mix would be cut?

I think there is a slim to none chance that we sign another WR. I think we will go into the season with a subset of what we already have.

I don't agree with it....but I just don't see an addition in our future.

Come on Hurney and Fox....prove me wrong.

Bingo! The Panthers are in the middle of a retooling stage and willing to develop young players.

I can't see them overpaying some other teams castoffs and go against their present mode of operation.

I think that we should sign Brandon Banks when the Redskins let him loose.

yeah, I am a firm believer you don't teach guys to be NFL return men. They either are or aren't. You know right away if they got it or they don't.

that ain't a knock on AE as I think he can be a great weapon.

but Fox for whatever reason simply can't find a WR or return man...something most teams don't struggle to find.

Yeah, Mo Mass would probably love to come home, and Brian Robiskie is intriguing.

It's not like the Browns couldn't use a potential weapon at RB (No, I'm not a believer in Harrison, or the other guy), and they could probably use a quality TE as well.

A few more...

Sam Aiken, Patriots – big guy, local ties (UNC alum); formerly a ST captain with the Pats but might get squeezed out if they decide to keep Torry Holt

Michael Clayton, Bucs – has always been a better blocker than receiver; this year expected to be his “last chance” year with the Bucs

Josh Reed, Chargers – former pupil of Tyke Tolbert; older (30) and might have lost a step; could be out in SD if they can settle with Vincent Jackson

Ramses Barden, Giants – huge (6’6); has flashes but still extremely raw; fairly low on the Giants totem pole right now but I doubt they part with him; possible though

Yamon Figurs, Raiders – smallish, but very fast; strictly a return man though; signed as a free agent but might be expendable with Jacoby Ford on roster

I would agree with that somewhat in a case where the return man was a return man in college. But in AE's case, he has no experience as a return man. So for him, there is definitely a learning curve.
