Ever had your parrots walk in...

Do they talk sh*t to you?

The male one does.

Mentioned before here that I play a game where I have them pick different colored food pellets as a way of predicting football games. One color is for the favorite, one for the underdog, and one for the point spread. What's embarrassing, of course, is getting outpicked by them.

Well, once a few years back, we had split on four games. They were right on the first three. I had one shot left for a win, and was watching the game in question.

It was Eagles-Broncos. I had picked Denver, and they were up by four, setting up for a field goal that would have put them up by seven.

Fox was sitting on my chest, watching the game. Staring at it, really. Sometimes he stares so hard at football games you'd think he was breaking down the film. This was one of those times, and he hadn't made a single sound in over an hour.

But then, the field goal got blocked and returned for a touchdown. And instead of Denver being up by seven, they were now set to be down by three.

I swear, the very second the Eagles player crossed the goal line, Fox straightened up, turned to look at me, in a mocking voice said "Uh oh" and started laughing :skep:

That was one of the biggest "what the..." moments I've ever had.

They're watching you... :lol:

Realistically, there's no possible way he could have understood what was going on in that game, or what it meant.

Still, something made him react that way, and derned if I know what it was.

It's one of the weirdest things I've ever had happen to me.

That's actually the same breed as mine (see avatar) :lol:

I originally taught Quak to say "touchdown' when I raised my arms. They both do it now, but "touchdown" has also become a 'happy word". For example, when I feed them something they really like, they say "touchdown".

Funny, and slightly spooky, thing though. There was a period a few years back (still living in Ohio at the time) when Quak would say "touchdown" anytime she saw an image of Steve Smith. SI was running a subscription commercial that featured a picture of him, and anytime that image came on, she spoke up :sosp:

Most commonly repeated parrot words in my place (and their meanings):

"Touchdown" = "I'm happy"

"Treat" = "I'm hungry"

"Drink water" = "I'm thirsty" (only Fox uses this one, Quak just squawks)

"Take a bath" = "I want a bath"

"Uh oh" = "Something funny just happened"

"Daddy" = Me, obviously

"Hello" = Duh

"Hey, Buddy" = "Welcome to our place" (essentially a greeting)

"Pretty bird" = "I'm full of myself"

"Love the Bird" = "I want attention"

"Daddy loves the bird" = From Quak: an expression of affection. From Fox: "I just did something naughty and I'm trying to placate Daddy by being cute."

They also say "Good dog" to me when I give them something they want (learned from back when I also had a dog). And they can use "yes" and "no" fairly appropriately.

They also laugh, a lot. Girlfriend was here a few weeks ago and did a "zerbet", i.e. blowing on my skin (arm, in this case) to make a fart noise. It was pretty loud. They laughed like it was the funniest thing ever.

They call her "Mommy". Anytime I'm on the phone with her, they sit on my shoulder and just say "Mommy" over and over again.
