Matt Moore

Why do people say stupid things, such as "Well, Clausen was going against the second string D." Clausen was being protected by the second string OL for the most part, had a second year FB and undrafted RBs behind him. No established WRs, and the D was blitzing and stunting like crazy. THis is not against Moore who I know is better right now, but just because I think so doesn't mean I am anti-Clausen. Not many second round QBs would have done well in that situation.

Moore had many of the same problems. No Smitty, W. Wright and Lafell started, I think. DWill played a little, but he had no Stewart. They both did fine.

As for those all over Gross, I don't care. It is preseason, so if your man beats you, tackle him before he Tbones the QB. He was probably told that.

Jesusthug, lol. haha.. ha... hahahahahahahahahahaha

so yeah, anyway... My opinion on the matter is that Moore looked like a deer in headlights Thursday night. I still think he deserves to start, and he'll get the nod from John Fox, but you have to admit that Clausen looked pretty damn good. He needs work, this is clear, but I like his moxie. I think Moore is getting used to not having Smitty and Moose around right now. He'll get the hang of things though.

And to say Moore didn't show enough in those last five games is just ridiculous. An opponent's defense isn't just their secondary... half a teams secondary is their defensive line... without pressure, the secondary will just flat out suck. And I'm pretty sure Jared Allen isn't a slump like Peppers. They got after Moore early on... but you know how Moore showed why he belongs under center? He did exactly what the coaches asked of him... handed the ball off to J-Stew and Sutton... then when the time came, he made a big play down field. Just because he didn't throw for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns in each of those 5 games doesn't mean he's not suited to be our starting QB. He manages the game very well, and when you have DW and J-Stew in the backfield, what's the point of airing it out while you've got your fingers crossed that it doesn't get picked off?

and I'd like to add that Clausen was playing against backups, but they'll all be suiting up for game day come week 1. which means, they're NFL quality players, some of which could start on another team. for instance, Mount Cody (Terrance Cody)... he could play the NT for half the teams in the league probably.

The Ravens backup defense is probably better than a lot of teams starting defenses.

There has been far more hype for Moore since last year my friend. All he did was have a mediocre performance that was hailed as the second coming! The guy is a shitty QB period. Im not sure that Clausen will be the man either, it's to early to tell. But so far pre season game 1 goes to Clausen.

Can you please explain what is mediocre about having 3tds 0ints 299yrds with a passer rating of 123.2 on sunday night football in front of the whole nation against one of the best teams in the NFL?? And dont try and say he was throwing to anybody wide open he was just raw and maybe you shouldnt try to cut down his performance just because you want clausen to play.

I'm on my phone so its hard to check but if its the Viking game he did throw at least 1 td to a wide open wr and he fumbled twice. We just licked out and got the ball back. Fumbling is sort of an issue. The Viking also ranked 10th in the NFL for most passing touchdown given up so it wasn't like Moore was carving up an amazing secondly.

If you are talking about the Giants game than all that needs to be said is the only team in Football to give up more touchdown in the air was the Lions. They were both good games but give them some perspective and don't leave things out like fumbles.

Look I just want the best Qb when the season starts!Im not sold on Moore as a starting QB. Neither are most people I talk to that are level headed football fans! To me he seems like a good back up that can win a couple when needed. Maybe I'm wrong> I don't claim to be the authority on anything I don't do myself. But The Vikings game (which I have ) and have watched countless times-The Steve Smith reception For the TD was the only pass you could say was good throwing into coverage. He had to make a play on the ball so it's not like he has spectacular accuracy. Tell me what Matt Moore has done besides those gimme games? What makes you think he's the man besides Jake being so bad in contrast!

THe reality is that the only starting quarterback we have with any experience is Moore. So far, Clausen has completed 6 passes in a meaningless preseason game, You try and belittle Moore's accomplishments without pointing out the obvious which is no matter how little the experience, it is still light years ahead of Clausen right now. How about at least waiting until Clausen has done something before we put him on an the same level as Moore.

We all want the best quarterback to be playing. Most of us simply feel that a proven commodity no matter how small the sample is better than a totally unproven commodity until further evidence refutes that. Lets see Clausen actually lead the offense to at least a field goal before we annoint him the starter.

    • Here's the article, obviously about Arizona, but has a lot that speaks to who T-Mac is as a player and person https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40918248/arizona-noah-fifita-aiming-big-12-championship-2024

    • Was a crazy day today for me with the Wrexham game starting just into the 4th Round and then them clinching promotion for the 3rd straight year.  So between all that celebrating today and just trying to follow the rest of our draft, I purposefully stayed out of this thread all day to give it a good read through later, lol Here's some responses to some of the things said today, sorry, it's a bit lengthy, but I've gone like 24 hours without getting to talk T-Mac, I was having withdrawals, hahaha. All of this The new staff was not good this past year, to the point that the fan base were calling for heads to roll just a few weeks into the season, it was pretty ugly on the Arizona boards.  The offensive play calling was pretty atrocious as well, and as mentioned here, Fifita took a massive step back this year and was constantly missing T-Mac when he got open and thus the bad/late throws were also causing some of the contested catches he had to make. Plus like you said, the entire offense was just to throw to T-Mac no matter what the coverage because we had no other receiving weapons.  Teams were constantly double teaming him directly off the snap and it was very rare for there to not be a safety already over the top on him before every snap too.   In a way, I'm actually surprised he put up the stats that he did, everything was stacked against him and he still put up 1,300+ yards. I'm actually not sure it has been mentioned, as it was something I never brought up this past year in talking about him on purpose, I didn't want it to sound like I was making any excuses for him, and I don't remember seeing others talk about it as I might have then jumped in too. He missed all of fall camp and only started practicing days before the season opener and at least publicly, it wasn't certain he'd even play the first game, which of course he then went out and put up 300 yards lol.  He also tweaked his ankle at one point about 5-6 weeks into the season.  Came out for a play or two to get checked, then came back in and kept playing but was a step or two slow the rest of the game but seemed mostly fine the rest of the year. In fact, for a few weeks after that, there was a vocal portion of the fan base that were hoping he'd just shut it down for the season because how bad the offense was and felt he was hurting his draft stock and risking injury at the same time.  But as everyone also knew, he wasn't going to quit on his teammates, in particular his QB in their last year together (will get to that later) I do think the original injury and lack of fall camp did keep him a half step slower than the year before at times, but it didn't stop him from still being an All American. This is also another reason T-Mac is a great fit with Bryce, once they get their chemistry down, the two are going to thrive on off script plays. T-Mac and Arizona's QB had played together since the 8th grade and were best friends, they basically shared a brain on the football field and it showed.  It's given him so much experience working off script, while finding and sitting in the holes in coverage to give his QB a big target as they scramble. Yep, smart, swagger, but also a GREAT teammate. When Arizona's coaches left after 2023 season, the assumption was that T-Mac, Fifita, and our top LB (who all went to the same HS together, and with Mason Graham too) were going to follow them to Washington.  In fact, T-Mac was a QB until 8th grade and switched to WR only because of Fifita, he's thrown a TD pass for us too, so he can be used in gadget plays. The day after we hired the new coach, he invited any players to come and talk football in his office, T-Mac and Fifita organized a large group and they talked with him for 2 hours.  When it was done, all the players left but T-Mac and Fifita stayed back and basically told the coach they were staying and were going to keep the team together as much as they could and they did, we only lost a few players (too bad the new coaches sucked lol). Both of them also then turned down some NIL money and told them to use it to give to other players on the team to help keep as much of it together. There's a good ESPN article about this a while back, maybe I'll try to find it. But THIS is the type of kid you want to build around, he's the full package and it's why I never missed a chance to let you guys know he was always the player we should have been targeting.
