Matt Moore

Dude Moore is better than clausen i dont really know what you would have wanted him to show you, did you not watch the viking and giants games last year? So what he was not as flashy on the pre snap as clausen but as long as he plays well which he has always done then clausen can wait his turn.

He didn't start in enough games for anybody to really know exactly what he can do. Yeah he had two nice games last season that didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but he was also still new to the NFL. Nobody really knows what to truly gameplan for when the guy hasn't played. This season we will see the real Matt Moore. The one that every week will be a focus for opposing defenses. He won't have any give me games where all the defense is concerned about is the running game.

Brady Quinn had a 4 TD 0 INT game against the Lions and a 3 TD 0 INT game against the Chargers. Do we really feel like we know what to expect from him week in and week out?

The Sanchize had five games of at least a TD and 0 INTs, nobody knows what he will do every week even going into this season.

Kyle Orton had a bunch of decent to nice games last season but is anybody pegging him as the future of the Broncos franchise? No, that is why they brought in Quinn and then moved up to draft The Golden Calf of Bristol.

If the Panthers were that confident in Moore they wouldn't have drafted Clausen. I don't care how much of a steal it was for him to drop to where he is they had other options for more pressing concerns.

Everyone bring up the Vikings and Giants games when trying to explain that Moore is going to be the franchise qb here. People seem to forget during that 3 TD Viking game though that he did fumble twice in that game. He wasn't without flaw. Lady luck just happened to be on the Panthers side that night and the ball bounced the Panther way.

Philly tied for the 6th most Touchdowns given up through the air in 2009.

Tampa Bay also tied for 6th most Touchdowns given up through the air.

New England was tied for 11th on most touchdowns given up through the air.

The Giants gave up the 2nd most Touchdowns through the air of any team in the league. This was his best game. Only the Detroit Lions gave up more Touchdowns through the air.

New Orleans was 28th for touchdowns allowed.

Minnesota was 10th last season in most Touchdowns surrendered through the air.

It wasn't like Matt Moore was facing top tier secondaries last season either like a lot of you make it out to be. 4 of his 6 games ( I don't count Arizona, he threw just 1 pass ) were against teams that were in the top 10 at giving up touchdown passes. 5 of 6 were in the top 11.

And yet you have anointed Clausen, who has never even been on a NFL roster during a game, the next savior. Yeah right.

Not once have I anointed Clausen the savior. I repeat in every thread that I want him to win the starting job, not have it handed to him. Agenda much? I just made a strong argument and the only thing you could do was pick a part one small section of it. You couldn't even defend against anything I said. We all know Moore will be the starter going into the season no matter what so relax.

This thread is about Moore and yet you come on here and state this about Clausen:

"Carolina should be beyond happy to have him on their roster and the fans should be happy knowing that the future at the QB position here seems to be in good hands down the road."

Sounds to me like you are praising someone who has never played while "having reserves" about someone who is 6-2 as a starter.

Sorry but I can't figure that kind of logic out.

I cant wait for this Moore hype to go away- He hasn't shown anything but that he was better than Jake last year. I said he looked better- Meaning he wasn't all cracked out making his decisions before he got rid of the ball- translation better pocket presence!

Most of the hype concerns Clausen, not Moore. You said he looked better. Thats your opinion, and you are certainly welcome to it. I disagree. When it comes down to it, the only thing that matters is completing passes and scoring td's. Neither scored td's but I thought Moore threw the more accurate ball.

he actually would have been 5/9. The two passes negated by the penalties weren't counted as pass attempts, so he would have had 2 more completions, but 2 more attempts.

Wow, good point, I never thought of that...

Also, I did notice this about Clausen compared to Moore... Clausen seems to only attempt passes over 15 yards if it's in the middle of the field. Much like people have mentioned that he prefers to check down rather than take chances down field. Whereas, the big pass from Moore to Jarrett that was negated because of the penalty was outside the hashes, more to the sideline. Moore attempts the deep passes wherever they are, but seems more confident in letting a route develop and throwing it outside the numbers... Just an observation.

There has been far more hype for Moore since last year my friend. All he did was have a mediocre performance that was hailed as the second coming! The guy is a shitty QB period. Im not sure that Clausen will be the man either, it's to early to tell. But so far pre season game 1 goes to Clausen.

Yes I have all panthers games on DVR- Moore did not do anything special I promise! The vikings game for instance where he only had wide open throws or Steve Smith to make plays on the ball! There has been nothing to show he is going to be a good QB other than he is better than Jake now. Look I hope the guy does spectacular but if you look at it rationally there is nothing there. Jake did so terrible that everybody latched on to Moore and because he didn't suck he's the man now!? logic anyone

The only hype Moore has gotten has come from this message board and maybe from the local media. The vast majority of discussion from national media has been about Clausen.

Regarding Moore's performance last year, in the 5 games he started, he completed 63% of his passes, with 8 TD's and only one int. Stretch it out over a season, and those are potential probowl numbers. His last three games last year were all outstanding performances. While he may not be a future star, and he still has a lot to prove, to say he was mediocre is baffling.

And fwiw, hitting open receivers is exactly what Jake couldn't do last year.

    • Here's the article, obviously about Arizona, but has a lot that speaks to who T-Mac is as a player and person https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40918248/arizona-noah-fifita-aiming-big-12-championship-2024

    • Was a crazy day today for me with the Wrexham game starting just into the 4th Round and then them clinching promotion for the 3rd straight year.  So between all that celebrating today and just trying to follow the rest of our draft, I purposefully stayed out of this thread all day to give it a good read through later, lol Here's some responses to some of the things said today, sorry, it's a bit lengthy, but I've gone like 24 hours without getting to talk T-Mac, I was having withdrawals, hahaha. All of this The new staff was not good this past year, to the point that the fan base were calling for heads to roll just a few weeks into the season, it was pretty ugly on the Arizona boards.  The offensive play calling was pretty atrocious as well, and as mentioned here, Fifita took a massive step back this year and was constantly missing T-Mac when he got open and thus the bad/late throws were also causing some of the contested catches he had to make. Plus like you said, the entire offense was just to throw to T-Mac no matter what the coverage because we had no other receiving weapons.  Teams were constantly double teaming him directly off the snap and it was very rare for there to not be a safety already over the top on him before every snap too.   In a way, I'm actually surprised he put up the stats that he did, everything was stacked against him and he still put up 1,300+ yards. I'm actually not sure it has been mentioned, as it was something I never brought up this past year in talking about him on purpose, I didn't want it to sound like I was making any excuses for him, and I don't remember seeing others talk about it as I might have then jumped in too. He missed all of fall camp and only started practicing days before the season opener and at least publicly, it wasn't certain he'd even play the first game, which of course he then went out and put up 300 yards lol.  He also tweaked his ankle at one point about 5-6 weeks into the season.  Came out for a play or two to get checked, then came back in and kept playing but was a step or two slow the rest of the game but seemed mostly fine the rest of the year. In fact, for a few weeks after that, there was a vocal portion of the fan base that were hoping he'd just shut it down for the season because how bad the offense was and felt he was hurting his draft stock and risking injury at the same time.  But as everyone also knew, he wasn't going to quit on his teammates, in particular his QB in their last year together (will get to that later) I do think the original injury and lack of fall camp did keep him a half step slower than the year before at times, but it didn't stop him from still being an All American. This is also another reason T-Mac is a great fit with Bryce, once they get their chemistry down, the two are going to thrive on off script plays. T-Mac and Arizona's QB had played together since the 8th grade and were best friends, they basically shared a brain on the football field and it showed.  It's given him so much experience working off script, while finding and sitting in the holes in coverage to give his QB a big target as they scramble. Yep, smart, swagger, but also a GREAT teammate. When Arizona's coaches left after 2023 season, the assumption was that T-Mac, Fifita, and our top LB (who all went to the same HS together, and with Mason Graham too) were going to follow them to Washington.  In fact, T-Mac was a QB until 8th grade and switched to WR only because of Fifita, he's thrown a TD pass for us too, so he can be used in gadget plays. The day after we hired the new coach, he invited any players to come and talk football in his office, T-Mac and Fifita organized a large group and they talked with him for 2 hours.  When it was done, all the players left but T-Mac and Fifita stayed back and basically told the coach they were staying and were going to keep the team together as much as they could and they did, we only lost a few players (too bad the new coaches sucked lol). Both of them also then turned down some NIL money and told them to use it to give to other players on the team to help keep as much of it together. There's a good ESPN article about this a while back, maybe I'll try to find it. But THIS is the type of kid you want to build around, he's the full package and it's why I never missed a chance to let you guys know he was always the player we should have been targeting.
