Matt Moore

Moore saw a different defensive unit. There may have been a couple of guys for the Ravens that were out there for both QBs but overall those were two completely different squads they faced from the Ravens.

For example, against the Ravens starters Jimmy might not have gotten as lucky with that screen pass. Moore might not have caught his tipped ball. etc.

It is not a concept where people are just picking on Clausen. Hardy needs to work against starters before people buy into the hype. Both showed promise and looked great......but you do have to acknowledge the difference in opponents when comparing them to guys that saw 1st string.

I agree on this. I just felt like too little is being made of the fact that Clausen was already pointing out blitzers, doing pre-snap reads, and picking up oncoming blitzers mid play and getting rid of the ball, where Moore got a pass while not doing any pre-snap reads and got clobbered and lost a fumble because he didn't know the guy who was going to crush him was blitzing when it looked obvious that he was coming before the snap.

I agree with you though that who they played against will make a difference and that Clausen did make mistakes. I hope we never see a pass across his body back into a pack of opposing players ever again. It worked out but it wasn't a football smart play.

The heavy rain in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs made it difficult to evaluate the talent.

Moore protected the ball well against one of the leagues superior defensive lines. We'd be singing more praises about Matt, were his two best passes not negated by holding penalties.

Jordan Gross needs more time in the gym. He was being beaten and without the holds, Moore was in for more sacks than he got. Fox saw it.

I thought Claussen took some risks to look good, but I liked the chances that he took. I told my wife that his scrambling and shuttle passes reminded me of Favre or Eli Manning a little, not to compare them at all. I just enjoyed the way that Claussen did not give up on the play. He was looking for an opportunity the whole time. I think it should be mentioned that the Ravens second string defense is still quite good. Gettis ought to have pulled in the pass to him that was intercepted.

The Ravens obviously learned who their kick returner will be, the Prince kid is good.

Armanti did well for a first outing, and he looks very well conditioned for his size.

Our special teamers blockers seemed to really hold back on return blocking, but since that is when players get injured most, I suspect it was Fox's idea they play back a bit. The officials missed illegal block penalties on at least two of our kick returns early in the game.

Gettis should not have allowed himself to be pushed into Armanti Edwards, its a rookie mistake. Between that, and the interception when he slipped, he now has at least 2 plays to create from thin air in order to salvage his chance.

3rd string Greg Hardy at DE clearly outmatched whoever the Ravens put up against him. Very good.

Clausen's getting the attention because he's the golden boy that fell in the draft.

In the eyes of the media, last night was more about Clausen's first preseason game and the introduction of the Ravens new offense. Clausen's poise was great.

Moore is Moore. Not many qbs do well when the Ravens blitz almost every play. Especially in preseason when Fox and company aren't game planning around them.

Clausen just looked better point blank. If Moore was so good there would be no question at all

Gross pissed me right off last night. Those are the kind of mistakes that a "Veteran Pro Bowler at 100% for the first time in years" doesn't make. I know that the O-Line is always slow to start, but C'MON MAAAAN! Two calls on big plays like that? Get with the program.

Yeah, they were stupid mistakes... but...

Preseason + no game plan + rust = poo will happen.

I wouldn't sweat it so hard unless he's still doing this during week 3 of Preseason.

No, he didn't look better. Moore was throwing pretty well against Baltimore's first string defense. Moore hit a higher percentage of his passes, especially if you consider the ones that were called back. Clausen looked pretty good, but there is no doubt that Moore should start for now.

I'm excited about having some real competition at QB. Maybe not for the starting job, but enough to keep Moore with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Moore's our guy, but Clausen did look poised. (But that completed throw across the grain to Sutton never should have been thrown!).

deserves his own thread if Jimmy Clausen does!

Yes, I know his stats only show 3/7 for 32 yds but if not for

Gross's propensity to hold at the most inopportune times, he would have been 5/7 for 68 yards. The first holding negated a 17 yard pass which would have put the Panthers at the Ravens 16. The second hold negated a 19 yard pass on a 3rd and 15 to the Ravens 18. In both instances, the Panthers would have had a first down in the red zone. At worst, they still would have had an opportunity for a FG.

Clausen is getting a lot of attention today but it looks to me like Moore has pretty much picked up were he left off last year.

I would politely correct one thing...Gross' offensive penalty was FS! FS is what we have gotten from this guy for over half a decade now..and at very opportune times. There's Matt exhilerated over a first down to Jarrett, and for the second time in a couple o' minutes, there's Gross standing stage left looking like he's lost between Canal Street & Broadway.

But I am soooo with you on the issue of Moore was a little nervous...how would you feel when for four months you've heard there is a guy on your heels...Clausen had the same "thingy" Matt had when he took over from Jake...nothing to lose.

I saw nothing that diminished Matt's right to start in RS!

I cant wait for this Moore hype to go away- He hasn't shown anything but that he was better than Jake last year. I said he looked better- Meaning he wasn't all cracked out making his decisions before he got rid of the ball- translation better pocket presence!

Dude Moore is better than clausen i dont really know what you would have wanted him to show you, did you not watch the viking and giants games last year? So what he was not as flashy on the pre snap as clausen but as long as he plays well which he has always done then clausen can wait his turn.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
