Everette Brown

The Don

Well there were a few plays where he got off the line pretty quickly, but once he got into the offensive tackle's pads, the offensive tackle just swallowed him up. Those linemen up there in Baltimore are beastly, but still, he should've been able to get around 'em at least once or twice. I noticed the same thing about Beason... at least on one play anyway. Beason got up to the line of scrimmage on a blitz, but couldn't get off his block to get to the QB. Our defensive line as a whole looked promising, but they all need a lot of work from what I could tell from last night's game anyway.

Yep, no doubt Baltimore has a big O-line. Even Greg Hardy got knocked on his but a couple times. He more than made up for it though with his back to back sacks. I'm thinking with all of the changes on the Defense, they'll get it together by week 4 of the preseason. Last night was a good wake up call. I thought Dan Connor looked good at Mike LB.

Wow, all this on Everett Brown? He outplayed Charles Johnson. I don't see any of you pissing and moaning about Johnson, but cause Brown didn't get any sacks (although he was getting consistent pressure, much better than Johnson) Brown is now the enemy.

Yeah becuase he was a 3rd round pick who has performed well in the past.

Yeah, Johnson I'm not worried about. He's more for the run game anyway. Brown is a rush specialist, so I expected at least one sack from him. And while he did get some pressure on the QB, he didn't get enough to warrant a 2nd and a future 1st round pick. But again, this is the first preseason game of the year, so I'm not freaking out or anything.

Everette Brown would fit better in a 3-4 scheme for his size. He's really an undersized DE. Last night he couldn't penetrate the line or get an edge on the tackles. I see him as a rotation DE this season.

he is not fluid enough to play lb in a 3-4, he would at times have to cover te's and maybe slot wr's i just dont think he could do that. the problem i see with him is more about timing, i mean he needs to learn to set lineman up better by using his speed to the outside then start trying to use spin moves and such either way i think he will be a decent rush end for us.

Not worried about the DE that's suppose to have the biggest impact on the field? He's not just in there for the run. He's suppose to be a complete defensive end. He got owned last night. Out right owned. Now do I expect that every game? No, I don't. But to see all of you beating and kicking on Brown for showing MORE than Johnson did, is bullshit. All cause of where he was drafted.

Love your understanding of the game.

I was dissapointed in his performance last night as well, but it's too early to write him off.

I'm excited about Hardy, but it's not fair to compare their performances last night - Hardy spend most of his time playing against 2nd and 3rd string offenses.

Oh, so Johnson gets a pass cause he was picked one round later.

That's stupid.

Like I said in my post, Johnson has performed well in the past, better than Brown. Johnson is also a 3rd round pick and Brown cost us more than a 2nd round pick. Lets not forget we traded away our 2010 1st round pick for him.

And yes I expect more out of a 2nd round pick than a 3rd round pick.

That's cool. You got your reasons. Nevermind that a GM and a coach isn't going to look at it like you are, but you got your reasons, and that's all that matters.

I'm not concerned with where he was drafted. I'm also not concerned about the first rounder we traded to move up into the second round to grab Brown.

There is no reason to sit here and be concerned about it. But I understand, that is your drum, and you are going to beat it every chance you get. Even after the first preseason game.

Expectations for Charles Johnson are higher. He is one of the starters. He has been in the league longer, so he should be able to live up to these higher expectations, yet he was owned last night. People like you are more concerned about draft status, than anything, and that is ignorant. Move on, or drop it.

Everette Brown got pressure, but looked poor stopping the run. He will be a situational pass rusher for now until he can stop the run. That said, Hardy looks like the total package, and should get some time with the 1's next game to see if he's legit. Charles Johnson basically looked like the opposite of Brown.. no pressure and great against the run. Hopefully Hardy truly is a beast and Brayton recovers so we have 2 legit DE's. Also, I was very impressed with our starting DT's.. Ed Johnson looked fantastic.. Tyler looked ok, and I thought Leonard looked ok... Landri has a motor but really couldn't do much of anything.
