I DON'T WANT Julius Peppers to be a Panther next year....

If he doesn't want to be here, which I think is obvious at this point, why that is I don't know, I have a feeling it has something to do with fox and turgo, but oh well. I say trade him for a first, 2nd and a 4th rounder and be done with it. If we get the scouting done right we could go away with three good players or at least two and save enough money to get a couple of good players on defense in fa. I'd rather have 3 -5 good players then one great player who looks like he gives up on plays. (not saying that he does it just looks it sometimes)

the constant double teaming of Peppers is one of the largest Carolina Panther myths I have ever come across.... He is "occasionally" double teamed but not to the extent that people believe.

I agree with this statement completely. The constant double teaming, and chipping of Peppers stopped years ago.

The arguement however is not whether or not Peppers is a good player and can be a valuable player on the D-line - the question is whether or not he is worth tons of money.

I dont have the answer and unfortuntely no matter what happens the fans and the Panther organization wont know that answer until after the decision is made and we all see how it plays out over the next couple of years.

Dwight Freeney -- 72 million, 30 million sign bonus

Jared Allen --73.26 million, 31 million guaranteed.

Thats what management is looking at. Peppers Contract is basically gonna set the market for the Tuck/Osi/Abraham in a year/etc.. Just like Dwight Freeney Contract setup Jared Allen's contract. So im thinking somewhere around 74-75 million with 32+ mill in guarantee or signing bonuses.

My opinion is that he is worth it because

A) he does get double teamed/chipped a lot. When he is singled up the LT's damn near put him in a full nelson. If the ref's called those holding calls Pep would be illegal.

B) he is probably the only person on our defense that teams game plan for. I know for sure they don't worry about any of our cornerbacks.

C) for whatever reason he isn't asked to just rush the passer like other DE's. He does a lot of defensive read/cover flats/drop in coverage etc...

D) He plays the run better than probably every other DE in the league except for Tuck/Kerse

E) He is the best athlete on our defense. What that means is even if he makes a mistake his athletic ability covers it up.

Peppers has been my favorite player on the team in franchise history. I believe that our defense will suffer without him, just like it suffers without Jenkins. But, if he has to go, he has to go. I'd prefer that he stay, but if we have to take that hit to improve the team down the line, then so be it. Just don't expect our defense to improve in the short term (say the next couple of years) because of it. And, we all know that without defense, you're not going to be celebrating any championships. We'd have to be extremely lucky to replace him with someone even half as good, particularly if we can't or won't open up the bank.

For those that think we should get rid of him, here is the problem: How would you feel if he ended up in a place like Tampa or Atlanta? Gruden would give his left nut for Pep.

Yep. I can just envision Peppers terrorizing Delhomme (or hopefully his replacement):P:).

If you watch the games he's chipped by a TE or RB very often. Double team doesn't have to mean 2 offensive lineman doing it (although he saw a fair amount of that as well).

Also, what's your answer to my question?

Does it matter? If it takes a year to figure out a replacement, that's better then overpaying and then dealing with salary cap hell. I'm sorry but there is no guy on defense that is worth that.

Let Peppers go and get 3 good players for the defense with the money you would have payed him.

Dunta Robinson!

You can forget about Dunta. No way we let him come back to carolina until he is retired. Kubiak and GM Rick Smith have already said he is the first offseason signing that will be addressed, and then after that we will sign Peppers to form the Carolina connection with Mario.:D

nah.... use pep to bring in a real QB! i really liked the way cassel looked this year. mcnabb is old but still has a few years left. with better QB play, we can still make a run.

oh, lucas must go and we need to shore up the DB this draft.

Peppers is the best player along our d-line. Period.

Let him go, and we really won't have a d-line. But I understand your reasoning.

I just don't share them.

I think he might want to go. We as the Fans dont get to see what goes on behind closed doors and he might just figure we cant win a SB.

Guest Jake Delhomme

Flame away, I got the flame retardant suit on anyways.... There has been a lot of knob slobbering about keeping the guy, I just came to the conclusion that he is not worth $1 mil a sack.... He is 29 years old so his window of top tier play is 2-3 years MAX..... I would love for this franchise to finally adapt to the methods that successful franchises have (Patriots, Steelers, Eagles) and let talent walk when the cost outweighs the benefit.... I know we won't find anyone of his caliber to replace but you build through the draft..... the time to extend Peppers was 2-3 years ago, now your going to break the bank for a DE who has more better days behind him then good days ahead of him.

I don't want you as a fan next year. You suck and too negative

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
