Right now, I'm pretty happy about Clausen as the QB of the future. I don't buy him as the QB of the present, though.

The best thing that could happen to him would be for Matt Moore to have a successful two to four year run. If that happens, then he gets to be our Aaron Rodgers.

Seriously?? You say all that and I am the child??? You call me whiny and you write that juevenile diatrribe.

I would respond but I learned decades ago that you waste your time responding to drunks or fools. Don't know if you are the former but if not then you must be the latter.

Maybe Scherer can do for him and his mechanics what he did for Cantwell. I don't remember Clausen throwing such an ugly ball. He looked better at fanfest but the TV camera puts it at a different angle.

This is an important point.

Checkdowns make for good stats (a big reason why so many WCO quarterbacks are overrated) but that doesn't tell the whole story.

The Panthers are a "Ground Chuck" offense (i.e. ground it, ground it, chuck it) and those great runs don't happen without a true deep threat in the passing game. Right now, Moore is way more credible as a deep ball thrower than Clausen.

I agree with a lot of things on here. But then there are some people that seem like they are reading too much into this game.

I thought the biggest dissapointment was our o-line during almost the whole game.

Quaterback play was never great. I thought Claussen had times where you couldnt believe he was a rookie and then he had times where it was pretty obvious.

Wide Reciever play was nothing to brag about either. Lafell looks like he really enjoys busting some heads downfield which is really nice to see. But he shoulda came down with that ball. I thought Armanti had his good times and then he had his times where he looks completly new to the position...which he kinda is.

Norwood and Hardy really impressed later in the game. Hardy just seemed to almost always be around the ball.

Armantis first return was for 18 yards...i think we are forgetting about that. Yeah he danced around some but then again where was he supposed to run with it. He looked confident in actually catching and securing the punts which is a really good thing. We all know we need some work in special teams and thats a big part of him dancing around. We need to get some blocks for him to set him free. I was glad to see him play as much as he did.

Special team coverage was terrible all night...

Despite his fumble, Tyrell Sutton is a true football player.

Fiametta looked good also. He had a few good catches and one really nice block

Overall I think we are reading to much into the first preseason game. Im looking foward to next saturday.

Fiametta looked good, and confident at that.

Sutton is a beast, despite the fumble.

ST sucked.

Armanti danced too much to begin with, but started doing much better, and did a good job securing the punts. He also looked good playing WR, just a little lost and needs to make the catch, but the same can be said for LaFell dropping that touchdown.

D-Line looked great. O-Line was garbage. Secondary and LB's were mediocre. Hardy will be a beast, and Norwood will make some plays.

Since this is basically a Clausen thread (as it should be because it was the story of the night), I find it funny reading some of the critics backpedal.

Does anyone else remember Mark Sanchez's PICK SIX when he opened up as QB against the Ravens in pre-season last year? Clausen's performance against Baltimore tonight was night and day different. Now granted they have some health issues in the defensive backfield, but you can't watch tonight's game and not be super excited about this kid. For as controversial as he has been, to be reading almost universal praise is pretty telling.

I know for some of you there is nothing that Clausen could ever do to unseat Matt Moore, but can we at least put to rest the "Hunter Cantwell is the real backup" nonsense?

It depends on the rest of the pre-season man. Clausen looked good, but I'm concerned about the toe they kept going on and on about. It could put him at #3 if it is still bothering him.

The only thing I disagree with is Armanti's play as WR. He didn't seem to have much separation and didn't really make any plays. I'm really hoping to see something from him this preseason.

I definitely thought Matt Moore looked like the better QB tonight, but Clausen, while not looking like some sort of super prodigy, did pretty well too.

I don't think it'll catch on as a nickname

(worked better for the Seahawks and Rams back when they had Chuck Knox as a head coach)

Still, it's a pretty appropriate description of our offensive philosophy. Despite changing OCs, we still build around basic principles taken from Don Coryell. I'll grant that we don't use as many multi-receiver sets as an "Air Coryell" type offense might, but the basic idea (power running combined with deep passing) is the same.

No one got a lot of separation, really, which is why I didn't really deduct that from him.

At least that is what it seemed like (no separation when it counted).
