Initial Impressions

To me Jimmy looked more comfortable than Matt. Everyone I watched with tonight said the same thing. Are we the outcast's?

Jimmy ran around way too early, and kept trying to throw on the run when there wasn't anything to worry about. He also had work with the second team, meaning if his receivers aren't open (which they weren't), then he was going to dump it off (which he did). he did a good job playing his role, but he needs to make sure he sets his feet and that this isn't the crappy Notre Dame O-line and doesn't have to run for his life and nearly run into defenders.

Clausen was 8 for 15 for 80 yards with one pick and one that should have been (pass to Moore)

The pick he did throw was the WR's fault - he fell down.

I'm going to go back and watch the Kenny Moore catch again, but I'm pretty sure the ball hit Moore in the hands and then popped up in the air, so that could have been a pick but it wouldn't have been Clausen's fault either.

There's no question that Clausen looked the best of the QB's tonight. No, he's not going to take Moore's starting job, but he was the best guy out there tonight. He threw a couple ugly balls, but that could easily be because of the rainy conditions. Keep in mind how horribly the O-line played for Clausen...he had defenders in his face or running free at him almost every down. His receivers also did a horrible job of getting open for him. Despite all of this, he was very poised and confident in the pocket and made some great plays. Yes, it was against 2nd string defenders...but he was also being protected by a 2nd string line and throwing to 2nd string players.

Moore looked just ok. Clausen surprised, ugly delivery but awesome awareness and was smart. Led a few drives. Cantwell has the pocket awareness of a footstool, big arm or no. Moore is definitely the starter and Clausen will be #2 going into the season, easily. I think Pike ran across the field once.

Really unimpressed with all of our WR. Moore was the best of a bad bunch tonight.

Oline was rusty and Bernadeau was TERRIBLE at C.

Hardy was a beast and Brayton had a good game. Brown really not flashing much yet. DTs were ok.

Armanti needs to work on conditioning. Guy had lead arms/legs in the second half.

Not too bad for preseason 1 with the weather and amount of turnover we had.

Are you joking? The 2nd O-line was pathetic tonight. Clausen was getting constant pressure in his face.

Dline looked the best of the defense.

Read that again. Most fans would have believed that even the week before training camp.

I definitely agree. When they switched to only screen passes that one drive, i saw it as an act of acknowledgment by the ravens that we were definitely getting pressure to the qb quick. Luckily it happened in the first preseason game, so we can work on how to handle screens. Beason had a couple poor angles. one of them he was blocked kind of weird. but i think we were mainly playing deep coverage on those. I'm impressed with the number of Hits we put on the QB without drawing any flags. I just wish our secondary could have made some plays off the pressure. This can definitely be a year where our secondary can sit back and go after poorly thrown balls.

on the first one I thought it was tipped by the defender's hand but it was hard to tell. The defender clearly was in front of Moore and wiffed on the INT. As for the second one, the receiver defintely fell but Clausen had no zip on the ball and looked at the receiver the whole time. The goal on an out is to throw it where either your guy gets it or no one does. Clausen clearly didn't throw it very well at all.

BTW, Did you defend Jake when he threw picks last year when the receiver fell down or is this the double standard at work. Just asking....

Well, the o-lines in general were poor.. but he had a couple times where he should have just set his feet and threw instead of trying to run. That was the opposite problem with cantwell/pike they were like stone statues who wouldn't throw the ball away. I didn't get a chance to see moore very much. other than when gross pretty much ruined that one drive.
