Initial Impressions

Here's a C&P of what I said on another site:

Well, my take on the game:

Moore and Clausen both looked very good (Clausen was especially impressive)

Cantwell and Pike both looked absolutely horrible.

Sutton was a beast (other than the fumble)

O-line was off, but it was the Ravens...I'll hold off on judgement for now

LaFell's end-around was very nice, but he shoulda caught that TD pass

Edwards looked like someone who'd not played WR since high school, but no big deal for now

Gettis looked solid, especially considering all the interference and stuff that wasn't getting called on the Ravens

Jarrett made a good catch on the only ball thrown at him

The TEs were unspectacular

Vaughn won't be on the team in week 1

Fiametta looked very solid, good blocking, good recieving

The backup center was terrible, absolutely horrible. I'm assuming it was someone who is just not used to snapping the ball

Khalil got a little manhandled by Mt Cody

Cody clubbed Vaughn in the face and Vaughn falls down? WTF?

Hardy was an absolute monster. Week 1 starter, mark it down

Brayton looked very solid, hopefully the injury wasn't serious. He walked off mostly under his own power, so let's cross our fingers

The DTs were solid

Brown looked like a lost child. Almost every other play he was turned around backward getting blocked from behind. He needs to abandon the spin move poo and concentrate on the duck move

Capt played poorly, glad he isn't our other starter

The safeties didn't stand out, good or bad

Beason did ok, considering he was getting held on every other play

Conner did ok

Anderson did ok

Charles Johnson didn't seem to have much of an impact

Did I mention Hardy was a monster?

The rookie secondary guys were a bit lost

Morty Ivy played VERY well against the Ravens' backups

Norwood played pretty well too. I don't think he should be used much as a DE though, to be honest. Let him be a rushing LB

Nice review Scot.

I have the game tivo'd..Im at work.

How did Connor and the rest of lbs look?

Honestly, not as good as last year's group, but that's to be expected with one of your best players out and another one moved.

Still only Preseason Week One, though.

No comments on Dexter Jackson?

Some other guys who really needed to do something to give the coaches a reason to keep them, but didn't do much: Dexter Jackson, C J Davis, Rob Petitti and David Gettis.

One decent catch on a wobbly ball from Hunter Cantwell, one slip and fall, not much else that stood out initially (I will watch the game again, though).

Kenny Moore made an awesome play catching a tipped ball thrown by Clausen.

About your E. Brown point: Brayton has been the same way the past two years. I'm not holding my breath for it but I think that it is possible he can turn those near misses into sacks, fumbles, and bad throws perhaps as soon as this season.

I was watching Connor when I could and it seemed he was just a little bit slow getting to the ball. Not that it was that he is slow just that he was a little bit out of position or got caught with a block etc.

Brayton was beyond expectation at the RE position don't you think? Beating Oher twice for two sacks before getting hurt was the biggest positive of the game for me.

Godfrey should be SS and Martin FS. Just wish Fox could figure that out.

Per the depth chart, that's what they are.

I'm still not clear what effect Ron Meeks has had on the "interchangability" of the safeties. Pretty sure Fox still sees it that way, but not so sure it'll play out that way on the field.
