So, what now?

I want to apologize in advance for the long post. I need to vent...

A couple weeks ago I called in to Panther talk and posed this question to Eugene Robinson:

Why does everyone who gets paid to talk about football have so much faith in Delhomme while the rest of us nearly have a heart attack every time he rolls out of the pocket?

He turned it around on me with the following questions:

Q: Since becoming a starter, what has Jake done for the team?

A: Super Bowl appearance, 3 trips to the playoffs including 2 trips to the NFC championship.

Q: What happened last year without him?

A: 7-9. But we also set a record for starting the most QBs in a single season. Lack of depth at teh QB position is deathly obvious.

Q: How did fans feel about Eli Manning last year, and look what he accomplished?

A: I'm not comparing Eli Manning to Jake. Eli is arrogant and was forced to prove himself under his own terms.

Q: Would Jake not have a Super Bowl ring if Kasay hadn't kicked the ball out of bounds?

A: Impossible to answer. (What I wanted to say was I wonder if you would have the Bart Starr award if you would have been arrested for soliticiting prostitution before receiving the award and thus blowing coverage in one of the biggest bonehead moments in Super Bowl history)

Q: Do you not think Jake has what it takes to lead this team to a Super Bowl victory?

A: Not unless he remembers there is a "blind-side".

Robinson then went on to basically call me a dumbass and took the next call. Well guess what---6 turnovers and no more Carolina football for 7 months. Ok, it's not all 17's fault. Why we abandoned the run is beyond belief. Why we played zone D and left Fitzgerald all alone in the flats time after time absolutely amazes me. So what do we do?

>>J Pepp--adios---thanks for the memories

>>Jake---5mil a year pay cut and a trip to the #2 spoet. "Mini-Me, move down the bench"

>>Graham Harrell---threw for nearly 4800 yards last season and is expected to go 3rd or 4th roud. Think about it.

>>Gamble---we've gambled on you too long. Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

>>Lucas---a good play here and there doesn't cut it in the NFL. report upstairs imeediately and bring your playbook.

>>Jeff Davidson---the run got us there, so WTF? If I were Eric Cartman I'd kick you "squah in the beanbag"

>>John fox---Oh Johnny Boy. You're the coaching equivalent of Jake Delhomme. Everybody likes your heart-on-the-sleve style and modest ego. We also like to win outright instead of squeezing out these 3 pointers at the buzzer. Get it together, or you're done after next season. Sorry.

Ahhh....I feel better.

maybe because some of the "experts" know a little bit more about this than you?

Eugene has a point.

I don't mean to come across as having a negative tone.

Hey--look the new guy has an opinion--let's pick one blurb out of a rediculously long post and trash him for it.

I'm not a fan of what Gamble has or hasn't accomplished over the years, so sue me. I don't think he's the primary catalyst of our issues either. Yes, we're a 12 win team, and in order to have another winning season we need to look at what went wrong and make the necessary changes. Look, we're all on the same side here---have an open mind...

To be fair, everyone's jumped on that one blurb because it's easily the most ridiculous part of your post.

Don't let 'em get to you. I think all we're saying is that Lucas is by the weakest link in our secondary, not Gamble. We can't overhaul the entire secondary.

    • Where did I once say we should draft him because he's a projected Top 5 pick?   That's one of my many problems with you, your reading comprehension skills are very poor (and/or you just don't care to use your brain, one of the two).  I solely used that to point out that me pushing T-Mac isn't some absurd homerism, that at least I'm pushing someone who is deserving of a Top 5 draft pick. And despite me explaining it to you numerous times, you still seem to not grasp how QB's get placed in mock drafts vs draft grades.  They are treated entirely different in mock drafts to any other position, because of how teams generally treat them in the draft because of how important the position is. Literally any other position except QB, mock drafts generally follow draft grades with some team needs factored in.  But with QB's, draft grades are generally disregarded and they ALWAYS put a few QB's at the very top of the draft, because that's just usually what happens.  The exact same thing happened in 2022 with guys like Pickett and Willis widely being Top 10 picks in mock drafts, only for Pickett to fall to what, around 20?, and Willis going in the 2nd round (and even being the 3rd QB if I remember correctly too). The overwhelming majority of draft experts are saying there isn't a high first round grade on these QB's, but they still get mocked there because they're trying to predict how the draft will actually go. That's been my point the entire time, reaching for a QB in a bad QB draft when you have a roster as depleted of talent as ours, does not tend to work out well. And I've never said I'm not open to other players, I've very explicitly said that if a QB or DE stands out come draft time, I'm open to that discussion.  That I'd be open to Hunter as a CB but I prefer a WR over a CB at the top of the draft.  But we're also not talking about the 15th pick here where there could realistically be all sorts of possible picks to discuss.  With the first pick, there really would only be a small handful of options, T-Mac is head and shoulders above any other given our current roster and state of the franchise in general.
    • TMac is good, but he isn't pick 1 on a WR good.  Last year he would be below Nabers and Williams.  This year you could argue Hunter is the better WR.  WR at 1 better be a Calvin Johnson not a WR that disappears some games in college...
    • So because he's a projected top 5 pick he's should be the guy we draft.   Yet you say the other 2 QBs who are projected top 5 picks are not worth it because you think they aren't that good.   That's my problem with you. You just seem to only care about Tmac. I have yet to see you suggest anyone outside of Tmac. At least I'm open to other prospects.
