Brady Christensen re-signs with panthers Carolina Panthers logo

Grade: A

Versatile offensive lineman Brady Christensen is coming back to the Carolina Panthers on a one-year deal worth just under $2.8 million.

Christensen has filled in admirably at tackle, guard, and center over his time in Carolina, and that kind of versatility can be hard to come by. It's a great depth signing, especially given the importance of competent OL play in the NFL.

The players that have resigned have indicated they preferred to be in Carolina. This is a positive reflection of the coaching staff, something we have not seen often.

I would make him a swing tackle first, reserve guard second.  We have Zavala, who played well.  The OL is set.

Corbett, Mays, Lewis, Hunt, Ekwonu, Moton, Zavala, Christensen, Nijman

I doubt we keep more than nine on the roster, so these hybrids are valuable.  I expect the Panthers to draft a RT to play behind Moton and to take the RT job in a year.

HOWEVER, BC can play RT and at age 29, he could compete for RT.  I wonder if this depth behind Moton prevents the Panthers from drafting a RT this year?

I hope we did not overpay--no more than $3-4m.

He was better at C than G tbh either way great depth piece as he's always been, serviceable all over the line and played excellent at C when called apon.

In fact he didn't play a single snap at guard last year

The lines are looking good and deep.  When could we ever say that about both?

Knocks on wood as saying this, hopefully we can stay healthy on them because that's were you win football games....

Our starting 5 on the oline all returning.... hasn't happened in a long time and they were SOLIDLY top 10 by the end of the year I suspect they will be even better this year with even more continuity.... easily could be the best line we have ever had.

BC is a natural OT from the waist down.  His arms are fairly short, which gets you moved inside in the NFL.  However, he is not bad outside.  I had been mocking a RT to us.  With BC, I am not sure we need to do so any longer.  Mays can play T as well, so I think we might be set.  If a RT is sitting there and is a great value, take him, but if not, don't go looking.  We should be fine.  We have depth at C (Corbett, Mays), depth at G (Lewis, Hunt, Zavala) and Depth at T (Ekwonu, Moton, BC).  I think we can say goodbye to Nijman and do not need a RT in the draft unless it is simply a steal.

Good. We needed a nice value signing. It’s still funny how much we overvalue our guys even with winning 2-7 wins a year over 7 years. People mentioned we might lose BC to a starting contract elsewhere. He’s a good backup but clearly no one is giving a 29 year old backup a huge deal. I think he’s thinking his best chance at starting is if Moton retires or is released in the next couple years.

    • all of a sudden we have a crowded WR room but I'm pulling for him.  Good kid, went to Socastee High, near Myrtle Beach, then to Clemson and I think really surprised everyone that he got drafted and did well. Fun player to watch too.  Hope he makes it.  I expect Thielen to retire after this season, Hunter could be a good replacement.
    • Everyone wants to know what happened to Hunter Renfrow. He went from the Pro Bowl in 2021 to an afterthought in 2022 and 2023 to out of the league in 2024.  Renfrow ow is attempting a comeback with the Panthers. “It’s just trying to get back, trying to get healthy, trying to do something I love,” Renfrow told Darin Gantt of the team website when asked about a year out of the game. “I enjoyed other parts of life. We had our second daughter, so enjoying that and just wanting to make sure if I’m going to come back and give my time and attention to something that I was going to be all in on it.” Renfrow, 29, revealed that he has dealt with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, which left him with weight loss, fatigue and high fever. It’s a reason he did not play last season. Instead, Renfrow spent a year consulting with doctors and getting the condition under control. “It kicked my butt pretty good,” Renfrow said. “Last year, I fluctuated in weight. I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven straight days of 103-degree fevers. It’s tough to play when you’re not feeling great.” He now weighs 187 with a goal of a playing weight of 185. “It’s a weird feeling. It makes you grateful for the times that you do feel good,” Renfrow said. “It makes you grateful for the opportunities that you’ve had, and when you feel like you’ve been blessed with some skill to go out there and perform, it makes you not want to waste the opportunity that you have. And that was one of the reasons why I wanted to come back and play.” In five seasons, Renfrow has 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/hunter-renfrow-a-health-challenge-led-to-time-away-from-football
