Game plan criticism from an odd source

Because of the one that earned him a Super Bowl record.

As strange as it sounds, that Super Bowl will be the proverbial "milestone" around this current regime's neck, for various reasons - Fox's ultra conservative coaching, Jake's erratic QB play, etc. If it worked consistently since then (save the three years Moose was in Chi-town), I could understand it. But if he had marginal speed then, how fast do you think he can track down the deep ball now that he's older?

After reading around about the game and Arizona's preperation it appears they knew exactly what we were going to do. They added a new play for Fitz to run against our soft zone and he gained 40 yards on it. They also added a wrinkle to their red zone defense because they saw a tendency in Jake that lead to Delhomme's 2nd quarter pick. After reading this stuff it makes seem like we were so outclassed in coaching that only perfect execution would have given us a chance.

Makes sense, CSock. Our gameplanning is so simplistic, PERFECT execution is the only way we could've won. Our gameplanning flat out sucks!!!!!! But "it is what it is".

I think throwing deep to Moose has less to do with who he'd out run and more to do with something they see schematically from the defense. If you're a d coordinator, who are you going to shade deep? Smitty or Moose? If you see the safeties shifted towards Smitty, or the safety on Moose's side has came down to the box... You gotta take that shot deep. And honestly, I think Moose's speed is pretty much the same as it was in '03. Deion Sanders still ran a 4.2 or high 4.3 at 38 with the Ravens... Supposedly Darrell Green still ran around a 4.2 at almost 40 years old as well. Jerry Rice didn't seem to lose a lot of speed going into his 40's and he had suffered a blown out knee at one time...

I don't think he's lost much. A lot of that is a myth. They say the biggest problem as you get older isn't so much that you can't do what you did before physically, but rather it just takes a lot longer to recover from what you've done instead.

I honestly don't know what the f*ck they were thinking abandoning their bread and butter.

Jake never had to win a game with his arm this season (he never had a 3 TD passing game) like he did in 05 even when it was just Smitty he was throwing to. And he never did do well when his name was called upon because the running game was not working. Minnesota forced him into making stupid mistakes, TB forced him into making stupid mistakes and picked him off numerous times. Even Oakland picked him off 4 times and the run was even productive in that game.

As I compared it to a game of Madden against an experience opponent... B/c of how easily they scored, as you suggested, we got into a pissing contest and turned out we were extremely inadequate.

We don't have the Oline anymore to go pass happy. Really you set the tone for a team in training camp to wither you run or pass. Thats why it worked in 05 and it didn't work last Sat. I think the inexperience of Davidson might have cause this to happen. Then again we were a oxymoron team this year cause we ran and controlled the clock and played to win games with Defense when our Offense was better then our defense.

It's not just a problem with the game plan. The players must EXECUTE. I love Beason, but the man couldn't cover a pass if his life depended on it. I know, I know, "he had an interception, dude!" But don't forget about his consistent "deer in headlights" look every time someone does a crossing route. Anybody remember the easy TD from Hightower in the flat? He watched it. Wave or something, dude!

Also, did anyone notice how often Richard Marshall got pwnd? That was ugly! I've always been a Jake defender. Now the only thing that leads me to defend him is the hope that I might get a pick6!!

One concept that seems to be overlooked here...

Based on the defense, Jake has the ability to call out of a run to go to a pass and vice versa. I'm fairly certain that I saw Jake making several adjustments at the line of scrimmage that may indicate he thought he was seeing 8 in the box, when in fact they were dropping back into man or zone coverage at the snap.

They played Jake like a fiddle. Davidson's gameplan allows Jake the flexibility. Sometimes you just have to call the damn play that you called in the huddle.
