Game plan criticism from an odd source

You don't usually hear this sort of thing from Brad Hoover.

Veteran fullback Brad Hoover said he thinks the Carolina Panthers could have run the ball on Arizona Saturday night.

"Our plan was to try to run the ball on them. That’s what we’ve hung our hat on all year, being successful in the running game, and I still think we could have done it," Hoover said. "Not to question things but, when you start putting yourself in a hole, and we did pretty fast, it’s hard to just run the ball when you’ve put yourself in pass situations."

I agree. The decision to abandon the run game so early was a bad one. It's not like our run game is a 4-6 yard run team, we have a lot of big runs and even had one against Arizona early on, we could have put up points quickly. I also noticed DWill sitting for a ton of plays in the 2nd.

Key stat

Delhomme accounted for six turnovers (five interceptions, one fumble) and the Cardinals scored 23 of their 33 points off of those takeaways.

Our gameplan shoulda been to keep the ball out of Warner's hands, not continually give him the ball. We were lucky he got tired or they might have put up 66 points on us.

As sad as it sounds, it looked like a game of Madden gone wrong. Played someone online? Threw an INT or turned it over early? They score. Feels like they went extra hard at you, challeneged your manhood. You say, "Alright, Imma show this mf'er..." You throw non-stop. INTs galore. They run up the score and you are blown out. Only to realize, "Man, I should've just run when I first got down..."

...Never happened to me, but this guy I know...

I think if you secretly polled the team, they'd all say wtf? It's impossible for everyone in the world to see that all we had to do was run the ball and cover Fitzgerald and yet we did exactly the opposite.

...by the way, it was just reported on the radio that Delhomme threw yet another interception this morning.

    • I want to throw in how much easier it is for a QB to develop and improve with a good oline.  Huge credit to the front office for spending the money on our two guards.  Cade Mays also had a 2nd really good game starting at center.  Love how he has developed and hope he's the real deal. Look at what Stroud is dealing with now in Houston after injuries and problems with their oline.  Strouds accuracy has been greatly affected as it seems like he doesn't trust his protection. Canales is doing a great job developing Bryce.  I think the QB whisperer might be for real. And obviously big props to Bryce.  First round pick that looks horrible in his first year.  Different coaches and systems.  Fans and media are calling him the biggest bust in NFL history and he looked like it in the first two games this year.  Gets benched.  Young man keep his cool and just continued to work and only worry about what he can control.  I hope things continue like this and we end up with a great success story. Bryce Young kept pounding.
    • Outside of Philly (who currently is #3 in pass defense) the rest of our remaining opponents are bottom 1/3 of the League in that regard.  Let's see what Bryce can do versus bad pass Ds.
