Comparisons to Super Bowl Season Ultimately Misguided (*Inspiring Post*)

Good post and I am also very optomisitic for the future.

The fact is we have all the players we want bar two definately returning next year. Peppers is a mystery, but if he goes then I can guarantee they will do everything in their power to ensure Gross stays. The other fact is that the core players we have are all at a young age and most locked up for several years, so personal wise we are very very close to having decent to very good players in most positions.

Like others I also would love to see them be as aggressive with the DL as they were with the OL, especially if we lose Peppers. We have two average DTs and no one behind them with two decent DEs in Johnson and Brayton. The players brought in do not need to be superstars, but hungry players with relentless motors. To be honest I would be happy if they brought in two DTs with the Brayton mentality, someone who has been mistreated a bit and has somehing to prove. Our whole philosophy is that it starts in the trenches so it was surprising to see us go into this season with so little depth on the DL.

The defensive backs are a slight puzzle. We have players who appear to be under performing in comparison to years past. I would love to think that it is what is being asked of them via the scheme more than their significantly declined skills. Everyone attacks Lucas, but the fact is he is very rarely exclusively in man coverage and the times that he has been burnt are often because the communication between he and the safties has broken down. The fact is that ALL our CBs have suffered the safe fate this season after such a promising start. I do not believe that it is the players. I personally believe it is the zone schemes that we use. The good news though is that we have not always played like this and that change is not impossible, even if Trgo stays.

Thanks, I don't know what I was thinking with that one. :o

To be fair, he really wasn't all that much of a factor offensively until 2003. If I remember correctly, I don't think he came into his own as a receiver until late that season.

He was just a kick returner under Seifert, and I believe under Fox in 2002. I may be wrong, it feels like it was ages ago :(

Lest we forget, 2003 was without a doubt the luckiest Panther team ever.

If not for a Mike Martz brain fart we would have gotten no further than this year.

Can't disagree with you here. However, you can make a case that every team that gets to the Super Bowl had to rely on luck at some point. Be it a few balls bouncing their way, or avoiding any major injuries.

As much as I hate it..luck has as much to do with winning the Super Bowl as anything else does.
