I get paid to write part-time about prep sports while I finish my degree' date=' that's certainly enough credibility for me.....[/quote']And Gantt gets paid to write full-time about professional sports, but that's not enough credibility for you?

I'm glad you cleared that up. :)

When did I say the guy wasn't credible, he's the first person I would go to in order to learn who's hurt and who's starting. However I just don't find him particularly good at evaluation of talent....

Versus being shut out of conversations, not being given access and writing uninformed crap because no one in the organization will talk to you. Personally I will take the guy who has access. At least you have an understanding of the organization and what they are thinking.

Of course that's why they do it, but you end up printing what the organisation wants you to print.

It's not journalism so much as it is PR.

You have a valid point. But, so does 55. I would rather have inside information (with a team twist) than no inside information at all.

I wasn't aware stating my opinion was taking pot shots at someone but that's ok. Yes I was at fan fest' date=' and the reason I haven't written anything about it is because there really isn't much to say. The offense (outside of a select few) looked out of sync and the defense looked much more prepared....[/quote']

Seriously? There was a lot going on that hasn't been reported by a football savvy writer. What about the Xs and Os. Listen tomorrow to NFL Sirius with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwin who will dissect the defense and offense and give some very intelligent conversation about the players and plays. I thought free lance writers had to figure out an angle that is different than the fluff and rehashed highlights or lowlights as the case may be.

Some folks might care about how the defense functioned, basic looks and variations. What looked like a lot of blitzes. Probably to simulate what the offense will see on Thursday Night at Baltimore. Who was calling out checks? Who played Strong safety. The hit in the backfield by Cultberson on Williams. A player who is making a bid to make the active squad. Lots of story lines.

How about on offense the fact we shuffled in receivers on every third play and rotated quarterbacks to the point that there was no continuity and certain no chemistry. The defense knew what was coming and jumped a lot of the plays.

I don't know, I can think of several angles. But I am an amateur, so what do I know??

I'm not sure how it's getting deeper' date=' they just keep throwing words that were never in my posts to begin with.....[/quote']

You're right, of course. You never implied a thing, we just drew inferences from what you were posting, assuming that you were knowledgeable and informed. I apologize, I shan't make that mistake again. :)

That can surely happen but I don't think it is with Gantt. He had some critical things to say about the team over the off-season. Buut lets be serious, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Most intelligent readers can take that source and mix it with others to get a clear picture of what is going on. By the nature of what he does- Panthers beat writer, he is going to have unprecdented access as long as he doesn't criticize or expose the team or players..

I expect he knows the limits and stays within them. If you want to work, you play ball.

Most of those points are complete common sense though, any fan of the team could tell you the reason they shuffled receivers would be to get multiple looks at each guy in different positions and sets....

Sure there's different angles to cover and many stories inside the main story of the offense looking flat and the defense looking much more prepared. There always is. But like I said I don't get paid to write for the Panthers so I went to fan fest with my fiance to have fun....

If you would like me to post my thoughts on the scrimmage along with some pictures I would be glad to sometime today....

I guess it might be hard to tell if someone is implying something unless you know said person....
