Panthro's Fan Fest Impressions

I'll put my two cents in here...I was on the field with the team for three days and what I saw was almost "as expected." Steve, Jonathan, and a couple of rooks were almost unseen. At SC Steve tended to stay over by the tent, and I get that. He did some light catching workouts, but hey, he'll be ready...he sure did NOT lose the confidence...and when I was walking with DeAngelo off the field he was as funny as it gets...so he seems red day!

Moore IS in charge! He was smooth and confident, but as noted it seemed like we were pretty lame, it is just I have been to so many camps and FF's somehow they evolve by first week of RS, but I am expecting we'll know who's coming to dinner after week 2 of pre-season. LeFell and Edwards are what? Davidson seems to be the most elusive coach on the field...I was within reach of him at Woffard for two days...he just seemed to throw in a bone and then let his AC's do the chatter. I do think that with the absence of any Smith/Muhammad chemistry the O seemd dull..but it's gonna change.

I have already gone on too long, I am learning about brevity on this board and love it. There is much more I could, but will not say...suffi ce it to be, I talked to coaches, corporates and asked a couple a straight forward question, and got a straight answer...from the Panthers! I am most impressed with the team of coachesMeeks and Brian Baker (who was most animate on the field!)

I am sorry I missed seeing you Joat...I was out there!

Yet, they all gather around Steve Smith to hear the 'gospel' according to one of the best WR's of recent history in the NFL. If we have lack of WR talent, it is probably because in the end, we have got some tricks up our sleeves...if you think you saw it all today, hang on. I was envious of the cards WR set up when we went down, but it did nto take long to appreciate what we had anyway. King was exciting, Wesley Walls-ish..and that ain't crap either.

1) Hardy was a disruptive force....1 sack and a couple tackles. Hustling on every play.

2) Armanti couldn't get open. Therefore didn't catch anything. Caught all his punts.

3) Clausen looked to be the most impressive. He would have moved the team if it was for OL issues. I thought he had good pocket awareness...best out there.

4) Kenny Moore...this is why you played at Wake and not a powerhouse like NC State. You show up in camp but when you move into the stadium you develop hands like a snake.

5) Why people sat in the sun is beyond me. Morons.

6) Gettis looked to be the best WR out there today. Lafell wasn't too shabby either.

7) Our back up K is simply that. Pray Kasay stays healthy....his kicks are low flying knuckle balls.

8) Picasso's has good wings but the wait was the suck.

9)Cumblerson appeared to be making plays. Stuffed DW behind the line.

10) my company 1/10

Im sorry, did you just refer to NC State as a 'Power house'?

Its going to take some time for Clausen to adjust. He had more WR talent at ND than he does with the Panthers, sorry thats just the truth. Floyd, Golden, and Rudolph are all NFL starters and better than some NFL teams actually...like the Panthers.

He never had a running game he could rely on at Notre Dame though. Not a single season with a 1,000 yard rusher which is pretty common in college football. In Carolina he has two guys that have the potential to both amass 1,000 yards rushing every year, and both can catch a bit. He also had 0 blocking help at Notre Dame. I believe not a single player on their offensive line got drafted or made it to any NFL camp as an undrafted free agent.

It does take time for any quarterback to adjust to the NFL but it won't be as bad as you think. He ran an NFL style offense that is very similar to what is run here in Carolina. He is used to playing in front of huge crowds, he is used to having the spotlight on himself, and he is used to being away from home unlike most college QBs. Another thing you don't have to worry about for Clausen is how he will fare in cold weather, since while playing at Notre Dame he had to play it it. He will be fine.

You can't knock him though, there was no real receiving threat out there today and he took what the defense gave him. That is all you can ask for from any quarterback. Give him some real weapons and you will be impressed.

Agree 100% with your comments Panthro.

Clausen looked sharp. I am definitely feeling good about our QB position for the future.

Gettis also looked sharp. That size and speed combination is nasty. He was getting good separation off the line.

Moore looked OK...not great, but OK.

He won an ACC championship at Wake, can any NC state players that are in the league right now say that? I'm gonna go with no because you haven't won one in 31 years and counting.

Moore needs to be worried but he also needs to understand that he is the starter. He doesnt need to look over his shoulder because doing that will surely lead him to failure. Thats what happened to Jake Plummler when Jay Cutler was drafted. He got too worried and played scared, which caused him to be benched prematurely. Cutler was eventually going to be the starter for the Broncos but it wouldve been a longer wait if Plummer didnt play scared and Plummer mightve still had the confidence to continue to play longer in the NFL.

I agree 100%. Ive seen Clausen play 5 times over his 3 year career at ND and without him (and some WR/TE talent), they win 2-3 games tops over his soph. and JR. seasons, they were that bad.

    • I mean that’s not an argument I go with… But in ACC play, both Clemson and SMU covered the spread more than Miami.  Miami didn’t cover in 3 games.
