Panthro's Fan Fest Impressions

Recommended Posts

1) Hardy was a disruptive force....1 sack and a couple tackles. Hustling on every play.

2) Armanti couldn't get open. Therefore didn't catch anything. Caught all his punts.

3) Clausen looked to be the most impressive. He would have moved the team if it was for OL issues. I thought he had good pocket awareness...best out there.

4) Kenny Moore...this is why you played at Wake and not a powerhouse like NC State. You show up in camp but when you move into the stadium you develop hands like a snake.

5) Why people sat in the sun is beyond me. Morons.

6) Gettis looked to be the best WR out there today. Lafell wasn't too shabby either.

7) Our back up K is simply that. Pray Kasay stays healthy....his kicks are low flying knuckle balls.

8) Picasso's has good wings but the wait was the suck.

9)Cumblerson appeared to be making plays. Stuffed DW behind the line.

10) my company 1/10

All very useful information, but Coach Panthro, in your evaluation of talent today how good are Picasso's wings? Really? Would you say they were worth the wait?

Clausen looked like the best QB? I did not see that. What about the missed call on the blitz, he would have been a spot on the grass on that one. Most of Clausen's throws were roll out check downs. The big throw that he did have would have been a sack, if not for the holding penalty, where the O-lineman outright grabbed the defenders jersey and just held him.

The best QB looked like Cantwell, but only because he was throwing against the threes.

Moore was forcing the ball because there was not anything there. Still the biggest play of the day would have been a TD from Moore to Moore. Kenny Moore had his man beat and Matt led him well, but Kenny looked like he lost it in the sun.

The o-line got punished and the D-line played on fire.

The rest of your observations were pretty close. I am just disappointed with the offense in general. There were no holes for the running backs and no separation from the receivers, except for Gettis in the 7-on-7's with no D-line pressure.

All good things are worth the wait. I went with the classic hot while Scrumzie went with honey chipotle....you could see the peppers on the wings. Good stuff. He also ordered ranch and as a result I just missed him with an upper cut.

I put this in JOAT's thread, but I'll add it here as well.

- You could tell that we had a mish-mash of OL out there...little cohesion, particularly on the 2nd unit.

- I don't think the QB's looked bad. Not great, but other than two passes by Moore that shouldn't have been thrown and one by Cantwell, they all basically took what the defense gave them. IMO, Moore and Clausen had the two best throws of the day. Moore's deep ball to K. Moore that went right through his hands, but should have been a TD, and Clausen threw a beauty threading the needle to Gettis on 7 on 7's (great catch by Gettis, by the way.

- Speaking of the QB's, it's pretty clear that Clausen has the edge for #2 now. He came out after Moore on 7 on 7's, then in the scrimmage the rotation went Cantwell, Clausen, then Moore (which looked to be 3rd string, then 2nd, and then 1st).

- It also looks like Edwards is going to get first crack at returning punts. The rotation was pretty much just between him and K. Moore, with Armanti taking the first punt, then Kenny getting a turn. Munnerlyn took one at the very end, but I think they are going with Edwards and Moore as the primary returners for the Baltimore game. Not sure who will go as KR though.

- The DL did look good. As has already been stated, they dominated the OL. Hardy got a lot of pressure, and the interior was getting some good penetration. I think Leonard will be a better pass rusher than many think. They also did a good job stopping the run, of course other than DW, we had a bunch of ball carriers whose best hope is probably for the PS, so it probably wasn't the best guage of where we're at.

- The receivers didn't show me much, but I couldn't tell if it was because our DB's are pretty good, or because they just struggled (I tend to think/hope it's the former). The TE's did the best job of getting open and giving the QB's a target.

- Oh, I noticed they had Duke lining up at Right Tackle with the 3rd team OL. Just found it interesting.

- Overall, it was not the crispest fan fest I have ever seen, but as others have stated, we had a lot of guys that will be getting uniforms on game days out, so you would expect it to be a little ragged. It's also a little hard to get a realistic read on things since it is obvious they are not going all out. Additionally, since they have so many young guys out there, you can see that they are still thinking, and haven't yet internalized everything yet. I think we'll get a better picture after a couple of pre-season games.

So, he was open some? Not trying to drill you for information here; just genuinely curious as to how he looked.

I did not see him open. To be fair I was also distracted by some blonde Milf was walking around with some sort of tatoo across her back.
