Joat's Fan Fest impressions

Posted this in the other thread also, but Duke Robinson is a big man that will dominate if he can keep his weight in check. He was getting some damn good push at the point of attack. The one negative I saw was he seemed to turn his hips a few times in pass protection which is a no-no, but that is correctable. I'm hoping the right side is Robinson-Otah.

Yeah any sign of the D-line and the defense in general doing well is definitely positive for us. Once we have our real O-line together and Smitty and Stewart are back in the lineup the Offense should do just fine. Most of our questions marks going into the off-season were with the defense, and it appears that we are answering those questions very well so far.

I want to chalk up the reported poor performance of the QBs to the lack of a threat coming out of the backfield. DLo apparently only played 1 play and then was pulled. Didn't hear anything of Sutton. Goodson is out, Stewart is out... I know they weren't gonna run it down the throat of the defense with it being fan fest, but I just think that would affect how the offense ran.

Also, as sad as it sounds, no Smitty=less offense. IDK, I just find it hard to believe that Matt was just that horrible after all the good reports coming out of camp about how he has looked.

Well...it's too early to say if this DT tandem is better than Kemo/Lewis, but I think they'll definately be better and getting pressure. Neither of these guys are the Kemo mold where their main job is just to hold down a piece of ground. The DL dominated the OL on almost every snap. A lot of people are worried about our lack of size, but I'm not. Just look at the weights of Tyler, Leonard and Johnson, we're not giving anything up there.

They certainly have the potential to be a much more dynamic tandem than the other two. Baltimore should be a very good test.

Overall, I'm excited about DT.

so people are upset that our DL, which was the weakness of the team, was dominating the OL, which was the strength of the team?

Personally, I think this could be a good thing

No people are upset that our 2nd string defensive line was getting better push against our first string offensive line, than our first string defensive line was against our 2nd team offensive line.

All in all, the only two people on the field that impressed me was Greg Hardy and Wallace Wright

Norwood was pretty impressive, constantly in the backfield and looked fine against the run.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this the first real live scrimmage, besides a few goal line plays? If so, you can expect the D to be ahead of the O almost every single time in that situation, especially when the O is young and without several starters.

Having said that, I have believed all along that this DT group will provide more inside pass rush than we have had since Kris Jenkins was here. So far, so good.

Let's hope it's that and it's not that the interior OL were underachieving.

I'm not even a little bit worried about our interior O-line. In fact, I believe the RG position will be better than it was last year, because Vincent was the weak link, IMO. I believe Bernadeau will win that RG spot, and he will play very well, just like he did at LG when he played there last year.
