Joat's Fan Fest impressions

Bad day for QB's, they were all off the mark and none looked very good. You can tell the D is ahead of the O.

OL struggled in both run and pass blocking, I didn't notice anyone who looked good along the group.

Nothing from RB's due mainly to the reason above.

The O as a whole was a disappointment. TE's were the lone bright spot for me.

Defense was solid, CJ Wison should have had to picks, one of which could have gone to the house but he had to settle for two nice break ups. Moore was the QB on both.

Kenny Moore let a very nice bomb from Matt slide through his fingers along the sideline.

More on the D, Norwood and Hardy were as good as advertised, both were in the backfield about every play. Norwood was quite impressive, didn't see as much from Hardy.

Q. Culbertson had several nice tackles.

I left a little disappointed in the very limited reps for the 1's on offense. D exceeded my expectations and while our 1's were challenging the 2's there was nowhere to run, Tank Tyler had some nice stops, a nice fumble recovery and a humorous run back that left Jeff King hanging on for dear life for a yard or so.

Weather was hot buy not humid, felt pretty good out there and I'm glad I went. My next report will be Monday from camp.

Funny, I have been on vacation for the past week so have not kept up to much but I heard steve reed on the way back in town yesterday say the offense was "miles" ahead of the D.

You know Im not gonna put too much stock into it but when the pressure is own Moore seems to be a different QB then when its just practice. Then again a sub par Oline dose not help matters.

Moore has had some problems hanging onto football even if everyone wants to ignore it. Still too soon to tell with him ether and I hope he can figure out how to hang on to them an contribute this year.

so people are upset that our DL, which was the weakness of the team, was dominating the OL, which was the strength of the team?

Personally, I think this could be a good thing

Thank you.

Concerns about our defense should be >>>>>>> than our offense. Any signs of life should be looked at as a great thing.

- You could tell that we had a mish-mash of OL out there...little cohesion, particularly on the 2nd unit.

- I don't think the QB's looked bad. Not great, but other than two passes by Moore that shouldn't have been thrown and one by Cantwell, they all basically took what the defense gave them. IMO, Moore and Clausen had the two best throws of the day. Moore's deep ball to K. Moore that went right through his hands, but should have been a TD, and Clausens threw a beauty threading the needle to Gettis on 7 on 7's (great catch by Gettis, by the way.

- Speaking of the QB's, it's pretty clear that Clausen has the edge for #2 now. He came out after Moore on 7 on 7's, then in the scrimmage the rotation went Cantwell, Clausen, then Moore (which looked to be 3rd string, then 2nd, and then 1st).

- It also looks like Edwards is going to get first crack at returning punts. The rotation was pretty much just between him and K. Moore, with Armanti taking the first punt, then Kenny getting a turn. Munnerlyn took one at the very end, but I think they are going with Edwards and Moore as the primary returners for the Baltimore game. Not sure who will go as KR though.

- The DL did look good. As has already been stated, they dominated the OL. Hardy got a lot of pressure, and the interior was getting some good penetration. I think Leonard will be a better pass rusher than many think. They also did a good job stopping the run, of course other than DW, we had a bunch of ball carriers whose best hope is probably for the PS, so it probably wasn't the best guage of where we're at.

- The receivers didn't show me much, but I couldn't tell if it was because our DB's are pretty good, or because they just struggled (I tend to think/hope it's the former). The TE's did the best job of getting open and giving the QB's a target.

- Oh, I noticed they had Duke lining up at Right Tackle with the 3rd team OL. Just found it interesting.

- Overall, it was not the crispest fan fest I have ever seen, but as others have stated, we had a lot of guys that will be getting uniforms on game days out, so you would expect it to be a little ragged. It's also a little hard to get a realistic read on things since it is obvious they are not going all out. Additionally, since they have so many young guys out there, you can see that they are still thinking, and haven't yet internalized everything yet. I think we'll get a better picture after a couple of pre-season games.
